This happens in cricket.

Every team says this before playing against the champions ( Australians).
This is their biggest 'EXCUSE'.

Ok, i can understand when someone gracefully accepts the fact that his opponent was better than him but 'AFTER' the match or series.

In cricket this retarded things occurs even before the start of the match or a series against Australia

Before playing against Australia's champion team, the opposition captain starts saying that the Australians are the best in cricket & we will try .

Even after losing to Australians, the opposition players don't say that they made some mistakes but they say that Australians were too good to handle.

Being an Indian, i am actually quite happy with the attitude of Indian players before an Australian series.
Kumble, Rahul , Ganguly and some other players have made some very positive statements. Thata's good but this happens very rarely.

It's clear, no one wants to compete with Australians.

The answer to this question is obviously 'NO'

This is not what a sportsman is supposed to do.
You play to find out who is the best.

What's the point of playing a match if you have said before the match that your opponent is better?

Why play if you know you're going to lose. I am 1/2 American Indian. We have old sayings, too. "Best man is last man." "He who competes has won already." "An arrow always finds its mark. Bur, it may miss the tarket." "A canoe is safe on beach. But, that's not what canoes are for." And everyone knows, "it's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog." BEAT AUSTRALIA!

Who said that no one wants to play a competitive match against the Australians .....in Test Matches or in ODIs ? Everyone , I mean, every Team tries to put up a fight against the Aussies , although , it's a fact that they are great Team in both versions of the Game.
Yes, the comments made by the Indian senior players before their departure for Australian Tour are good.It will be tough to win a series against them in their own soil. It's known to all. But, a positive thinking and and a positive approach to fight hard to make it difficult for them to win or , the Indians defeat them in a few matches. That has to be attitude. We should not be in the field with hanging shoulders .We must try every moment in every match to put up a good show and our body language should be more positive than what we saw in the past.Kumble is a mature Captain and has with him some mature erstwhile Captains of India.Together, withe fighting spirit of the younger players in the Team it will be a good series I hope.

I agree with you. To some extent this is an excuse. It also lowers the confidence level of other team members, which is usually less when playing against the Aussies. The players should boost confidence and play very energytically till the end.

It happens in other sports as well. Many of Tiger Woods opponents openly praise him as one of the best golfers ever, yet they still go on to compete. Many feel it is an honor to be able to share the course with him and compete with him.

You're thinking the basic premise for a true sportsman to compete is to win - it isn't. A true sportsman competes with himself, to challenge and push his abilities to the limit. In order to do this he will go against opponents that are equal or better than his own abilities. A true sportsman will acknowledge his opponents abilities, even if they excede his own.

Saying any team team powerfull or champion or saying that they are weak and dummy is of no use.. you have to show your strength on the ground ... this is more important then trying to immitate the opponents.. like trying to insult ausssies.. as they apply this trick to any team.. you should first become a champion before dictating terms to others.. Indian team will be kicked for every word said..

Unless a team is trying to look weak when in fact they are strong as a way of deceiving the opposition, they should not act like a loss is all but certain. A team should wipe clean the slate of its memory and focus on what it needs to do to win this game, regardless of the past wins or losses of either team.

Openly admitting that your opponent is better than you are is a sign of humility and honesty. Frankly I find that refreshing compared to the over-dose of arrogance and overconfidence that most teams and athletes subject us to.

To say your opponent is better than you BEFORE the game, means you're going out there with the attitude'I can't win'. But to say it after he's beaten you is just good sportsmanship.
