First of all if you want to show a power (like squared) in text do this: (3x4)^2+(12-11)^2
And when when you want to show multiplication use * not x so it is not confused with the variable "x".

All squared means it the number times itself: X^2 = X*X

So in your problem:

(3*4)^2+(12-11)^2 = (3*4)*(3*4)+(12-11)*(12-11)

(12)*(12) + (1)*(1) = 144 + 1 = 145
