Reinstall windows, that is a sure way to take it back to less than 80%. But make sure that you back up your data first.

There is only one way to get your hard drive to 80% or less. You have to uninstall or delete files until you get below the 80% mark.

IF you have already removed all the programs you can, the next option is to remove data. This means moving your music from the hard drive to CDs or DVDs. Same with pictures, videos, documents, etc. Go through the "My Documents" and move everything possible off your hard drive (or delete it).

Once you have done the cleanup, be sure to Defrag the hard drive. While it will not give you more space, it will arrange the files you have left so that Windows can find them faster and will help your computer to keep running at full speed.

Burn all your personal music and images to a CD. Go to add/remove programs and remove any unwanted ones. Empty all temp files (In; windows/ temp, documents and settings/ temp, 'any other users'/ docs and serrings/ temp, explorer/ temp. clear all cookies and your IE history files. Look through the following files and folders to find things that may not have showed up in add/remove programs: C;, program files, Windows, Documents and settings, Application Data and Favorites. (Do a search for each folder if you don't know where they are. Right click on it in search and explore if there is more than one folder of that name.) Clean out/ delete what you don't want. Then run your reg cleaner again. Something that works for me, and can be adjusted to clean only those things you want, is BeClean. If you need any more help, feel free to message me.

If this is a desk top, you best solution would be to add a second hard drive. It's easy to do, and a second drive will allow you to move all of your personal data, (movies, songs, pictures, ete), off of your "C" and free up all the space that is not taken up by these files.

The least expensive method would be to install an internal drive, but an external will also work.

Visual Directory Explorer is a tool that I wrote to help me clean up my hard drive. It presents a pie chart (or optionally, a bar chart) where each slice is a subdirectory on your computer. Clicking a slice in the pie chart brings up a pie chart of that subdirectory, allowing you to recurse. I use it to figure out which programs are taking up too much space, so I know what to get rid of!

Visual Directory Explorer performs a quick analysis of your hard drive and calculates how much space each directory and file is occupying this. It presents this in two formats:

a "tree" display which mirrors the file and directory layout on your hard drive, and
a graphical "pie chart" (or bar chart) display that presents, in human terms, how much space is being used up.s
Windows CleanUp!, the quickest and easiest way to delete temporary files from your system.
CleanUp! is a powerful and easy-to-use application that removes temporary files created while surfing the web, empties the Recycle Bin, deletes files from your temporary folders and more.

CleanUp! frees disk space and reduces the "clutter" on your computer helping it to run more efficiently. It also can be used as a way to protect your privacy on the Internet. You can even instruct CleanUp! to securely delete files making it impossible to retrieve their contents using lower-level disk tools - just another way of protecting your privacy.

I'd get an external USB drive and put all the stuff you want to save (music, movies, pictures, documents) there. Then, thoroughly clean the HDD: temporary internet files, recycle bin, all unused programs etc etc. You might even consider wiping your drive and reinstalling everything.
