Herbs: Milk Thistle by itself, or blended with dandelion and artichoke.
Schisandra berries.
Rehmannia root.
Turmeric.

Food: Cabbage is one of the best vegetables for the liver. In juice form, it is more digestable. Doesn't taste very nice. Try blending raw cabbage leaves, 1 small cucumber and half a pear with a dash of mineral water and a splash of lemon juice in your mixer and getting your Mum to drink it as often as you can! The pear and lemon juice make it really yummy!
Dandelion roots, roasted like parsnips, can help.
Artichokes are good.

And try making her a ginger root infusion a few hours before bed ... very detoxifying. However, some people find it keeps them awake, so try it a few hours before her bedtime at first. All you have to do is get or buy a ginger root, slice some of it up and pop it into a mug. Then pour boiling water over it and leave it to steep for about 3 or 5 minutes.
She could also benefit from a sea-salt bath once a week and if able to cope, a brisk walk or some kind of exercise which will increase her intake of oxygen and make her sweat. Sweat cleanses the body of trapped toxins and would put less pressure on her liver.
I hope some or all my ideas can help!

There are a huge number of herbal remedies for the liver. One of the best is milk thistle, Carduus marianus, which i have used on people with cirrhosis of the liver and hepatitis C. These patients have regular liver function tests through the local hospital and there is a measurable improvement, so this is clinically verifiable. The recommended dose is up to 40ml per week of the 1 in 5 tincture, or 8ml of the 1 in 1, which i prefer.

A more easily available remedy is dandelion root, Taraxacum officinale (radix). This is also a diuretic, though to a lesser extent than the leaves. Other options are Chelidonium majus, greater celandine, which in the UK (where i am) is a prescription-only herb so you would have to consult a herbalist for it. Bitters generally are good for the liver as well, such as yellow gentian, Gentiana lutea, which is endangered and so should be avoided, centaury, Erythraea centaurium, which is closely related to yellow gentian but not endangered, and wormwood, Artemisia absinthium, which should probably be avoided as it is psychoactive and would be neurotoxic in larger quantities. Chicory is another option. Bitters don't need to be consciously tasted to work, but if they spend a long time in the mouth they will have a greater effect. Their taste can be disguised with honey or in other ways. Dandelion root can be eaten like Jerusalem artichokes, to which it is related. Including that sort of thing in the diet would be good. It so happens that people who drink a lot of coffee have a lower incidence of liver cancer and it appears that coffee is generally good for the liver, but it is unhealthy in a lot of other ways. The other thing to do, and this depends on the type of liver disease someone has, is to eat a high protein diet, with a lot of fish and eggs, but if there is actual liver failure this will be harmful.

This is the sort of thing consulting a professional medical herbalist would be ideal for. Herbalism excels in treating liver complaints.

The best way to prevent liver failure is to limit your risk of developing cirrhosis or hepatitis. Here are some tips to help prevent these conditions:

Get a hepatitis vaccine or an immunoglobulin shot to prevent hepatitis A or B.
Eat a proper diet from all of the food groups.
Drink alcohol in moderation. Avoid alcohol when you are taking acetaminophen (Tylenol).
Practice proper hygiene. Since germs are commonly spread by hands, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after you use the bathroom. Also, wash your hands before you touch any food.

Researchers have found numerous ways to improvise the action of common home remedies & developed proven systems to help liver with a guarantee.Find here how people cured fatty liver at:http://adola.net/go/fattyliver-bible/

Have a good health!

You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. GOOD GIRL. The best thing you can do is a good diet and a good nutritional supplement. Hypocrites said let your food be your medicine.

· It is important to maintain a good diet so you don't compromise your health. ·

3) nothing fried, bad oils, sautee with olive oils
4) no FAST FOOD- is junk, no nutrition, empty calories
5) NO PROCESSED FOOD. if you can't pronounce it don't eat it.
6) nothing white, salt, sugar, mayo, milk, (or at least in moderation.
7) NO DAIRY-dairy is great for baby cows, your body does not even digest it properly. check out www.notmilk.com
8) EXERCISE- and be sure to refresh your body with water and fresh fruit
