I'm writing something and have been reading upon spirits, demons etc. I'm just wondering if this will draw them to me because I don't want that.

This is a tricky question. Although it's my opinion paranormal events do not extend beyond the person experiencing them, it's important to note the power of suggestion. If you *think* you live in a haunted house, you are far more likely to find "evidence" supporting this idea. So, if you believe reading about spirits will attract them to you, I wouldn't be surprised if you see perfectly normal things as having a supernatural source.

How would reading about something attract it to you anyway? Can you imagine anything about a certain book, the contents of which no spirit should know about, that would attract the subject of the book?

This is the kind of question I wish I had asked. I've wondered about this for years. A long time ago ..when bad..really bad things..were happening to me..I went to the Library. I brought some of those books home..and things got worse. From then on..I just read the books at the Library...altho recently I did bring some home..Sylvia Browne etc. I was told one time that people can put spells on things like that..esp. ouija boards. So....guess what....I've gone "paranoid" about things like that now. I even wonder about "holy water"...What if an "evil" person blessed it...would it be evil then??? Could that person put a spell on it. ?? I used to really count on it for protection. Hope this doesn't make you "paranoid" too about things . LOL But they do say that spirits can attach themselves to furniture and houses and property...so I don't know where you should draw the line!!
EDIT...I think...just like Christians pray over things and bless them...that evil people can do the same and possibly put what they call "spells" on them. If there wasn't this possibility...then why do priests etc. go around "blessing" things and using holy water???What would be the point..unless there was a chance of something evil in it.????

I dont think that would cause them to be attracted to you. If they can be attracted to anyone, then I would imagine they would try to be close and contact their family. If studying or reading up on them made them attracted to the person who was doing the research, then *anyone* could contact spirits just by reading about them. There would be alot of millionaires claiming to have special powers just because they read a book or two. Very unlikely (in my opinion). I have been reading about Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, UFO's, ghosts and Egyptian burials and curses since I was a kid and I've NEVER seen anything (but always wanted to). Good luck with your research!

Well, I'm not entirely sure about this, but from my experience, unless there are spirits around you who want desperately to be seen or heard, I'm thinking you probably don't have anything to worry about. People who tend to actually *attract* spirits are usually those with gifts (clairvoyants for example); we tend to be a light in the dark to them. No worries. :)

Hello Bonny

There is nothing to fear from spirit - its the humans you have to watch out for!

Studying such matters can open you, but again there would be nothing to worry about. Any discomfort you may feel if it was to happen would be from your own fear prodding you imagination into action.

There are no demons & any spirit you may meet will be on your side.

Pam

Unusual question and quite thought provoking.
Personally, I feel you must be open to draw anything--good or bad--to you.
It is easy to get caught up in your work. I was in a class, when I thought I would be a nurse, well...that is a different story, but the point is---when we were studing diseases and thier symptoms, everyone had at least one of the things we learned about....
And the instructor said it happened every year---there were people who read about a certain disease and then started showing symptoms...so it could be in your head...

This depends on if Demons & Spirits have their own version of Homeland security. If they do you are certainly being watched already. ;)

If you are doing honest research on spirits and demons. Not just looking up scary stories. You'll find out it's silly to be afraid of them.

That is an excellent question and one i have asked myself many times. As a christian, and someone who has studied demonology extensively, i feel obligated to tell you that the answer to your question is an empathtic "yes"!
Demons, or fallen angels under the command of satan, spend much of their time watching us human beings looking for any crack or crevice they can slip into to get at us. Usually, it is our sins that open a portal that allows them through in order to deceive and manipulate us. The use of drugs and hallucinogens are another area that leave us wide open to demonic infestation. Apart from that, any interest in them, especially an unhealthy one, can predispose us to attack.
If you are serious about protecting yourself, the bible gives step-by-step instructions in Ephesians 6:10-18. You can be assured of being fully protected if you have received Jesus as your Saviour.

I would suggest you interview some demonologists and ask them that question. If you draw them to you unwillingly it would be that you have already stepped into their territory.

Some people in here will suggest cleansing and protection, it will help if you believe it will. Just don't let your guard down if strange things happen or if you start acting totally against your nature.
