There are an infinite number of lines crossing any planar surface. The fact that only lines 1 yard from one another are marked is irrelevant.

What do you think GOAL LINE is. Oh sure you may rather they call it that, but that is pretty much what it is. What next are you going to complain that they call it INCHES without actually measuring to make sure that is the exact amount? I really don't care what they call it. The goal line is a LINE and the ball has to BREAK THE LINE for it to not be on the LINE though.

The line exists it just isn't painted on the field. It's a real line; not imaginary. There's a one inch line, two inch line etc. for that matter. So, no. I don't get annoyed by that. Mathematically the announcer is entirely correct.

if you want to be technical....
there is a one foot line. it is the new LINE of scrimmage and therefore can be referred to as the one foot LINE. just like they say he was stopped at the 45 and a half yard line. its an imaginary line, but still a LINE.

Yep. Picky. They are just being descriptive. Sounds better than "two-thirds of a yard" in or something like that.

yes...a little picky...BUT
The announcers of any sport are getting paid a lot of money to call the game...I would appreciate it if they used proper terminology...I hate Stupid observations as well...I think John Madden makes comments that are SOOOOO obvious it's annoying...just call the damn game....
