No. Screw that. I stopped faking it months ago.

Don't we all? I'm a secretary and I've lived to see secretaries become dinosaurs. I'm the most overpaid secretary in the world and a newly graduated high school student could do my job now. It's depressing to see all my skills wasted. All I do nowadays is make copies, answer phones and proofread. Of course, it does help that I can SPELL, something that those newly graduated high school students seem unable to do judging by some of the atrocious spelling I see here--and nobody seems to know what that button up there that says "CHECK SPELLING" means.

I'm really good at looking busy as hell. I hate when the boss comes over though and says "what are you working on?" Then I have to scramble for an answer.

I have found that if I carry papers around all day and walk fast and keep a look on my face like I am on a mission, then I can not do very much work all day long. It's a gift.

I sure do, especially on Fridays when all my work is almost done and I really don't want a whole new tin range. I look at that screen like I am trying to find a cure for cancer.

I've been lucky enough that every time my boss does come around, I have some work to do.

My boss is a chick, so not only do I have to fake being busy I have to fake that I am "multitasking" and I have to fake that I am interested in what she is saying.

I'm way to hard on myself so I feel guilty if I fake it or slack off.
My father was an insane worker, doesn't believe in relaxing so I learnt this from him and am trying to change it. It's nuts!
Any tips?
How do you guys do it?

well, i usually don't open some emails for the intensive purpose of getting to open them when my boss is around. i would then really be doing something. no need to fake it when i have tangible substance.
