Ok so she is 17 and a senior in high school. All she eats is junk food and soda.

Literally this girl drinks at least almost a 6 pack a day!!

I try telling her its bad for your gut and your teeth, but she says she "likes it"

Also, I tell my parents that it is bad for her and that they should not buy it anymore, but that falls on deaf ears. They think if she wants it so bad then she will find a way to get it lol. so they may as well buy it.

Seriously, it prolly has been a year or two since she drank a nice tall glass of water. I dont know how she survives lol.

Place a chicken bone in a glass of soda, it takes time, but it will harm it. This is the same as your teeth. You can also get pictures from the internet on damage caused by soda on your teeth. It will at least make her think twice about the next soda.

Find some nice articles about how badly soda affects your teeth and bones. Soda will basically make them both deteriorate. I'm not much for a lecture on this, as I am an avid soda drinker too, and need to cut back. But I have read about the effects. Tell her to try going without for 2 weeks, and see if she notices any difference in how she feels physically. Most people will feel healthier and have more energy.

Tell her that each can of regular coke that she drinks contains over 7 1/2 teaspoons of sugar. Drinking a six pack a day means that she is consuming 1/2 pound of sugar a day. Then tell her that if she were to put one of her teeth into a cup filled with coke or pepsi for about a week or two the tooth would be gone. Also you can take her to a grocery store and have her pick up bags of sugar or flour and tell her that after drinking x amount of cokes that is how much sugar she ingested.

a 6 pack a day!!! That is incredibly bad for her, even if it is diet and caffeine free. That can cause horrible damage to her kidneys and teeth. Maybe you can show her some studies that scientists concluded about soda consumption. Have you heard of the one where they put a tooth in a glass of coke and it dissolved in a couple of days? You are a good sister.
Good luck!

Tell her that one of the biggest contributors to the current obesity epidemic is drinking sodas, and that one of the best and easiest ways to lose weight is to just stop drinking sodas and start drinking other things like milk, water or (unsweetened or less sweetened) tea. It helped me when I was losing weight.

And while she can get sodas without your parents' help, the fact that it's there in her face when she goes into the fridge is encouraging her to drink more. That's why *I* don't have it in my house anymore - when I had it, I'd drink it, but when I quit buying it, I found that I hardly ever drank it any more. I used to drink soda every day, sometimes a couple cans a day, and now I might drink one every week or so.

On the next dentist check-up, don't be surprised if they say she has like 5 cavities. That is her fault.

Does she have a bad complexion? Eating fast food and drinking sodas can do this to you. Overweight? This can happen too!

Tell her she needs to cut back on so much sodas. The above can happen. If she still persists, tell her to drink her sodas through a straw. She can avoid cavities and discolored tooth enamel. This is a great tip!

OK, you can tell her some facts like:

1. One can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine, and is loaded with artificial food colors and sulphites.

2. It has absolutely no nutritional value

3. Studies have linked soda to osteoporosis, obesity, tooth decay and heart disease

4. Soda is one of the main reasons, nutritionally speaking, why many people suffer health problems. Aside from the negative effects of the soda itself, drinking a lot of soda is likely to leave you with little appetite for vegetables, protein and other food that your body needs

5. Stopping the habit is an easy way to improve health. Pure water is a much better choice. Tell her that If she must drink a carbonated beverage, try sparkling mineral water.

While it is good that you are concerned about your sister's health, it will do no good until the advice comes from a doctor when she has diabetes or some such ailment. Back off and let her live her own life. Besides in a few years she'll replace the soda with beer and wine.
