i cut my bang most of the time and it looks greater than the hairdresser does.

I actually almost always cut my own hair. It's not hard once you get the hang of it. When I had bangs, I always did it myself too!

I do it all the time, but only because I don't have a structured style that relies on a specific type of cut. My hair is long and layered, so I just tip my head over, hold it together in a pony-tail and snip the ends. I, also, cut my own bangs. If I could find a decent hairstylist who didn't charge a fortune, I'd go, but in the meantime, self-maintenance is working fine.

Yes, I used to do that all the time. I was pretty good at it.
I also did a "layered" style this way:
Comb damp hair straight over head
Bend over forwards and comb hair down in front of eyes
Cut super straight across just below the nose (or chin for shoulder length)
Flip hair back, and it is layered!
The reason it is layered is that it is longest in the back because you combed it over your head. And the farthest back hair turns out the longest!
Now I have the money to go to the salon, LOL

I trim my bangs between hair cuts. It's soon time to donate my long hair to Locks of Love, so I plan to cut off 10" to 12" of hair myself, then go to the hair salon for the real hair style. I want the satisfaction of cutting off my long hair that took two years to grow...it's past my waist.

at least once a week and even use a # 2 guard on the clippers for the hubby

I regularly cut my fringe when I come in drunk and make a balls of it!! There is a rule in my house where no scissors are to be left near mirrors!!!
