in short...what happened was I went to the CEO and brought my concerns about my boss to her attention. the CEO then spoke to my boss about my concerns (since my boss' carelessness has now jeopardized funding for my program)...after her meeting with the CEO she has been isolating me and very short with me....yesterday I overheard her "venting" to the Director of Grants about me...I thought that was considered defamation since there is no reason for the Director of Grants to know...but I'm not sure.

Hell, my manager can't keep a confidential converstation to himself either....I think it has something to do with being high up in the ivory tower...lack of oxygen or something.

Well, you've run into the reason why it is treacherous to go over the head of a boss to complain...the boss's supervisor is not around all the time to protect you, and the boss is there day-to-day and runs the place.

It's not defamation if it is true or even an opinion. If it is patently untrue (factually) it MIGHT be defamation, especially depending on the content of what was spoken.

Honestly, you sound like a trouble maker who is out to get the boss's job. Careful how you play your cards in the office. It just may backfire on you. I mean how unintelligent are you. Do you actually think you are making a great office atmosphere when you rat on your boss. What did you expect for her to do give you a tea party. What you need to be concerned about is how your ratting is going to make you look in the long run. I have a feeling she is going to be with the company longer then you.
