I can think of two directors so far (with the exception of Uwe Boll) who get lots of bashing from fans. Both George Lucas and Michael Bay fall into the category. The one trait common to all the haters of both these directors is that they're all a bunch of elitist snobs who think they know better. George Lucas tried with the Stars Wars prequels which I didn't think were that bad. I enjoy Michael Bay films to be honest. But I've seen a lot of bashing. So that's what they get is it? A slap in the face for trying. It seems like some people have no respect for hard work. Sure there are things that IMO could be better about their films but there's no need to rant about them. I'd like to see the haters make movies themselves. But I guess it's easier to criticize and look 'smart' while doing so.

Well I feel the same way. I really enjoy Michael Bay, but all of a sudden because he's successful he sucks? I don't care what people say, some just don't like when other people are successful. Obviously, they don't hate enough to NOT watch these movies because they are highly paid directors who make millions off these movies, so somebody is watching them. Besides, you know what they say. Those who can, Do...those who can't, criticize.

i agree. we shouldn't bash the director. but some folks have expectations and want perfection. I like both directors. The only movie I know of right now from Michael Bay is Transformers but I'll look into his other work. I think they get serious bashing because look at the movies they're making. Star Wars and Transformers, two huge favorites in popular culture. Naturally people will be expecting the best from these guys. I say they did a good job.

What's the old saying ... everybody is a critic. I think the biggest reason these two, especially Lucas, get trashed so much is the kind of films they make. Take Star Wars and Transformers ... both of these sets, in general terms, are "love it" or "hate it" kind of movies. They have large fan bases and every fan, especially Star Wars Nuts like myself, thinks they "know" how the story should go and get ticked off when it doesn't go where they thought it would. I'm not to familiar with Michael Bay's body of work but I was pleasantly surprised by how well done Transformers was done and thankful that he didn't try to pull a "BattleStar Galactica" on us. For the most part he was 'true' to the story that had gone before. BS Galactica is a good example of someone not staying true to the original story. I mean come on ... Starbuck is a woman ????? that is just so wrong in so many ways that it boggles the mind. Does that mean the new one sucks ... no ... it's a very well done series but it strays so far from the original that to call it BS Galactica is almost an insult to the original. Don't even get me going on the "new" Bionic Woman show ... they are messing with my first "crush", Lindsay Wagoner, and that's just plain wrong ... lol ... Spiderman 3 is a good example of someone straying from the original story but in a way that makes sense. The origin of the "black suit" is different in the comics as Spidy got it during that monster story line they did years back ... think it was "Crisis On Infinite Earths" but I'm not sure ... on some planet way out there ... in the movie the "suit" comes to earth as an metor so it's a similiar way and it works because in both instances it came from "outer space".

As for Lucas, well he brings a lot of it on himself with his sometimes arrogant attitude. He was screwed whatever way he went with the prequels because, lets face ... the OT was a pretty hard act to follow. No matter what he did with the movies there was no way he was going to be able to please all the fans ... it was impossible. Another thing with the PQs is that for the first two movies one of the things that made the OT so great was missing. No, I'm not talking about Vader ... I'm talking about C3PO & R2D2. Yes, they were there in the first two but not in the same way they were in the OT. In the OT they were the "comic relief" in the story ... listening to them go back and forth was like watching Abbott & Costello. There were little "flashes" of it in I & II :

C3PO: My parts are showing ... oh dear I'm naked ... in I

C3PO: This is such a drag ... in II when R2 is dragging his head across the ground on Geonosis.

In III R2 was up to his old tricks again with the elevator thing and when he lays the smack down on those two Super Battle Droids ... it was Classic R2.

Lucas returned to his "roots" for Ep III. By that I mean he stopped listening to his "advisors" and listened to his gut ... the result ... one seriously kick *** movie. In many ways Revenge Of The Sith was the make or break of the entire saga. It was the one we all had been waiting for for 30 years ... Lucas knew he had to "hit out of the park" and did he ever.

In the end it comes down to one sad fact ... the "idiots" are always the ones with the biggest mouths and they are looking for their "15 minutes of fame" wherever they can find it.

Sorry for rambling on so much ... I don't even know if I gave an answser to the question in here somewhere ... lol ...

I don't "bash" directors generally.. I admit to being one that HATES the star wars prequels.. but I don't think it's ALL George Lucas to blame..

To be fair.. I really respect what they do for the most part.. I don't think I could do it.. I may not always be impressed by their movies, but they are doing what THEY want to with them.. I respect that. I will talk about what I dislike about movies I hate.. and I will tell people the truth about what I thought about them.. (as I work in a video store I do get the opportunity.) but I also tell them the good aspects.. I may not like a movie but I am not going to tell someone that they won't.
