Based on what I've read about Andy Petite over his entire career (and having met him once at a charity function), I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt, and will continue to root for him.

The baseball authorities ignored the steroids issue for so long (to the extent that what Pettitte did was not even against the rules at the time), that I'm willing to forgive anyone who holds their hand up, recognises that while they may have not broken a rule they clearly went against the spirit of a great game, and honestly avoids such things in the future.

I don't care what team he plays for (damn Yankees!), what race he is or even whether he's a good player or not. Baseball has to move on, and that requires the players to admit their guilt, take their medicine (not those medicines, ok?) and move on themselves. It's those who refuse to come clean or refuse to acknowledge what they did was wrong, that hold everyone else back and ensure this issue can't be put to bed.

He's not a pillar of morality and this will probably linger over him forever in some small way, but at least he's moving on in the best way he can. Let's hope that baseball learns from all of this and leaves it behind for good.

I agree with Dave51 of what he say about Pettite. There will be Yankee haters always & I don't care what others say, there are players on steroids or HGH, like Pettite was & I still say some of the players play in Boston. Much of the stuff in the Mitchell report was hearsay. He went by testimony of 2 people both who worked for New York teams. BS if you ask me. I am not a supporter of steroids but the whole Mitchell Report was a waste of $$$

I believe him and wish him the best....I do have something else to say....Steroids are becoming like Gatorade in professional sports and becoming ridiculous, not that i approve at all but, it seems like every player is now using, in all sports, so if this is a fact isn't a level playing field across the board? I also believe that mandatory drug testing on a regular basis with major fines will put a stop to all users.....1st fine 30% aannual salary, I believe everyone should get a second chance so 65% annual salary and 1 yr ban, 3rd time banishment no reinstatement....since professional sports are driven by the almighty dollar, this should make for a quick turn-a-round in professional sports!!!

Every indication is that he used HGH twice , in 2002, to help heal an arm injury. Since MLB didn't add HGH to the banned substance list until 2005 and since he apparently had a doctor's prescription he should not have a problem unless something else comes to surface.

Well I'm not really a fan of the yanks, so I kinda never rooted for him, so i really don't no, I heard all this stuff about taking it 2 recover for like shoulder injury. I guess i will beleive him, bu he could of said it right then and there instead of taking a couple of days to finally tell the truth.

Believe him that he only did HGH for 2 days in what ??03. NO,NO,NO.but as I've said before everybody,80% of the players at least in the "Steroid Era " did something to enhance their performance.Listen I Love the game of Baseball nothing can change that fact.So I don't think I need to forgive any of these ballplayers that are found to have used thats to many to forgive,Live and let Live. Here's to a GREAT 08.

No I don't belieive him but yes I will forgive him. Even if he did steroids 1,000 times, he went about this the right way. He admitted and apologized. Who has America not forgiven once they apologized? Giambi? Bill Clinton? etc. Once someone apologizes they basically take the high road and instantly become forgiven...mostly because everyone can then focus on any number of the goofballs that don't apologize.

I do believe Andy, but him using it to heal is the exact reason why many use it. To build muscle, speedy recovery and greater performance.

Hey Rob.. your a damn idiot.. he didn't take Steroids he took HGH..... He's a Yankee so every Yankee hater is gonna say he's lying. Pettite is , by far, the classiest player in the league. Before criticizing the Yanks, look at your team. I don't care what anyone says.. Manny and Big Papi had to pay off Mitchell to be excluded from that list. Papi went from hitting a max of 20 hrs a year 5 years ago to if he only hit 20 its a bad season.. Manny swelled up from his cleveland days. He's always been a good player, he's just too damn big.

No I don't believe him. if he was willing to do steroids twice, why would we believe he didn't do them more? And hiding behind the "it was for the team" excuse is BS. he did it for his own personal gain as well. If he's such a team guy, why didn't he take a cut in pay? And if he cheated, then why wouldn't he lie?

In the NFL, you get suspended for about half the season for even receiving HGH, never mind using it.

Finally, if this guy is such a pillar of morality, why didn't he come clean BEFORE the report fingered him?
