I went overdrawn yesterday (Sunday) by £5.74 by accident. I'm worried that Barclays will charge me for this. Is it low enough for them to ignore it, or am I already stuffed?

Unfortinatley they will charge you.

The buffer for Barcleys Bank is £5 and if you are even 1p over they hit you for it.

If you speak to them about it they may waiver if its the first offence in 12 months.

If you have a basic Barclays Bank account rather than one of their packages then there will be a charge of £30. Taken from the Barclays website:

A Paid Referral Fee of £30 is charged when we pay an item that results in your account going overdrawn by more than £5* without an agreed limit, or by more than £5* above an agreed limit. In addition, this fee will also be charged if we pay any further items that increase your unauthorised borrowing by £1 or more.

Barclays give you a £5 "buffer", which if you go over, they have no qualms about charging you for. However, I recently received a letter from them, advising me that I had gone over my limit, but as it was the first time in a year, they'd waive the charges.
If they do charge you, phone up and complain, if it's not a regular thing, the nice person in India, will probably get the charge refunded.

Talk to the bank about an overdraft facility. That lets you go overdrawn by X amount before they start stinging you.

It shouldn't make a difference for 1 day, most banks don't charge for going less than £10 over-drawn.

Yes but just a tip. If you go into them and point out that when you make a mistake they charge you heavily for it... yet when they accidently take your money out twice you get no come back they suddenly waive the charges...especially when you threaten to leave them and go with nationwide!

It is computerised. So if your account allows 0 for overdraft.
You are screwed...
Ask you bank advisor to arrange an overdraft, especially if it is the first overdraft you have in years of being clients with them.
