Flood is the overflow of whatever, water, spam, calls, etc and to prevent it is to have safety measures in place.

Flood: An overflowing of water onto land that is normally dry.

Prevention: by engineering works, such as land drainage and the straightening and embankment of rivers. Flood prevention and flood control measures include afforestation, the construction of relief channels and reservoirs, the provision of water meadow areas in which to divert flood water, and a ban on building in flood-prone environments, such as flood plains.

a flood is when water ways overflow and the water has no wheres to go other than covering the land. rain, melting snow, hurricanes, and tropical storms cause flooding.

prevention in most cases you can't but in some you can examples. the mississippi river used to change where it passed and would flood the land untill it formed a new delta. now man has controlled where it passes so it no longer floods. hurricane that push water up waterways causes flooding but people built leves so that when the river reaches its peak it doesn't flood homes and businesses, but some times they don't work or there is just too much water .
