no, if it is, all about love
though i guess, if it was, the kind of love would have to change from..."dating?" kind to something else like...friendship love or something
but in a general term, no. yes, of course it woudl shock me, but no, it wouldn't change what emotions were and are left.
i know this wouldn't make snese in rea life...but if you ate a frut that you thought to be an apple, and you loved it, but later found it to be an orange, would it change the fact that it had the potential to make you happy?

To the love , No.
To the intimacy, Yes.
Love comes in many varieties from platonic to intimate.
You can love someone with all your heart and they are nothing more than a friend because that is what life has dealt you.
Sex is some what tangential to love. They intesect time and time again but they are not dependent on one another.
The problem is intimacy goes to the level of physical contact and that means having sex. That may mean alot to your self identity. If you don't see yourself have one sort of sex or another then there is your importance. You can not be true to who you are if you pretend to be something you are not simply because you are in love. It only taints the love.
So , yes, it matters.
It won't destroy love but it will mar it a bit, if that love becomes passionate.

Physical is not the main one, but can be a part of an expression of love.
We are on the physical Earth Plane.. why not make use of our resources?
I believe in the sacrosanctity of our bodies, but with respect and love, a physical expression is nothing short of beautiful for both parties, because... we are very very much part of physical reality, much as we might philosophisize otherwise.
A touch, or chewing on food gives you more pleasure than imagining it! Our nerves are active sensors. Unfortunately people abuse it for hedonistic pleasures.
Use it with your love, I say :)

It is a spiritual love they speak of, not the physical attraction and emotions of another individual. That is called lust and important for reproduction.
All I can say is be careful.

I wonder what it is you actually want to ask becuase the answer is absolutely obvious. If it is not a physical relationship then the physical is not important.

There are two closely connected kinds of love when it comes to people:
#1. That which you partner with to procreate and spread your genes directly.
#2. That which indirectly assists you in the spreading of your genetic data.
#1. Is usually someone you can have sex with and are sexually attracted to..... while #2 is usually family, since they share a certain amount of genetic data with yourself (and thus their breeding loosely benefits you and vice versa).
So essentially, if you can't make babies with someone, can't get help raising babies from them... and they aren't family....
.... then loving them is pointless and nature would consider you defective.

love has far wider scope than 'physical love'
love is without condition and without end.
sexuality does not affect the quality of love!
