My lcd is native 1280*800 , and I HAVE to set it at 1280*768 for hooking it up with a TV . Will it be safe to do so , any chance it will damage my lcd ?

its completely safe. you will just have unused pixels... probably an unnoticeable black bar @ the top and bottom... u can always stretch the image manually with your monitor adjustments.

Setting a monitor to a lower resolution that the default will not harm it. Either everything will be stretched out a bit to make it fit the screen, or the screen will leave a black band on each side. It only has 768 pixels of info to fit in an 800 pixel screen, so it is either stretched or left blank) Depending on your video card, there may be an option under the Advanced settings that will allow you to decide which it does - stretch or blank.

No way. It's just the same as watching standard def tv on your high def television set. It'll just look slightly worse, but not as bad as the example ;)
