Hey all I'm 31weeks pregnant with my first and I was wodnering whether to get a thin cot quilt or just use a few thin blankets to keepy the baby warm? I don't want to get a cot bumper for obvious reasons...I'm considering gettin one of them grow bags to put her in to keep her warm...will I need additional thin blankets to make sure she is warm enough? and should I delay getting a quilt until she is old enough?

gro bags are great I still have my 14 month old daughter in one. You shouldnt use them until the baby is at least 8 lb so when she was tiny I swaddled her in a cellular blanket and tucked another blanket around her. With the gro bags you do not need any extra blankets, get a 2.5 tog for winter and a 1 tog for hot nights. Depending on the temperature of the room adjust the clothing the baby wears eg vest and sleepsuit, just sleepsuit, just long sleeved vest etc many of the gro bags actually have a chart in the packaging telling you what clothes to put on the baby for different temps, very useful. I wouldnt get a quilt until baby is at least 1 and glad you not getting a bumper as I woke one morning to find my daughter had her head behind it when she was about 5 months so would never use one agian . hope this helps :)

For the first few weeks i swaddled my son in a thin cotton blanket and a thicker one .plus he would wear a sleepsuit (he was an april baby and was a big lad)
He was warm in that.
As summer began used to leave him in just a nappy but still wrap tha cotton blanket round him.
i now use a growbag which is fantastic, he wears a sleepsuit underneath.depending on how cold it is i put either a vest under his sleepsuit or a extra blanket over the top of his growbag -
I read that you can not use a quilt until there 1. However when we bought our bedding bundle from toys r us there was a cot bumper and a quilt in it which i dont think should be allowed.!

Grow bags are great but make sure you have thin blankets around too for during the day. I would avoid using a quilt until the baby is older as they can be too warm. You'll know by touch if baby needs more warmth. Good luck!

NO quilts, NO blankets. They are too small to get it off and can smother.

You're correct to look at those baby bags. They're great. We used to use a onesie, socks and a baby bag until about 9 months, I think. Easy night diaper changes as well. Baby had no other bedding.

Here are some good sites for info as well. Read up before that little one is born!! And congratulations!

Babies actually do not need to be too warm to sleep and in can in fact be more dangerous to them.
I have one of those gro-bags and they are fantastic,it cannot ride up over their heads so they are safe.I also have no bumpers around my babies cot.
Get a thermometer and monitor the temperature in your babies room and use your gro-bag when cooler.
In the summer I have some of those cellular blankets and use one of those which I tuck into the bottom of the cot to keep baby warm.Remember always keep your baby asleep on his back and feet at the bottom of the cot.Keep him with you in his moses basket in your bedroom for at least the first three months then he can move dto his own room and cot and avoid smoking near him or taking him to smoky places.
Good Luck with your new baby x

It doesnt be counted in the event that they look lost in it, i offered a classic cot and want identity offered a cot mattress, (money saving for a start up), I left my daughters interior the moses basket interior the cot for the 1st few months besides, the two my young ones have been born early so they appeared fairly tiny interior the moses basket aswell, a cot mattress is extra effective and money saving interior the long-term, all cots and cotbeds are made to secure practices standards so your toddler would be secure in it even nonetheless she would be waiting to look small, purely purely be advantageous you preserve the feet to the very backside of the mattress so they cant wriggle until blankets, or extra effective nonetheless purchase a toddler slumbering bag, i did that for the two mine while they went into the cot. good luck with the toddler and revel in!

You will still want thin blankets. Since a quilt is so heavy, you can use the baby fleece blankets. They have them that are very light weight, and they work great.

I swaddled both my babies in a blanket when they were new - it helped to stop them pulling the bedding off and getting cold in the night - it also made them feel secure and slept better. once they were around 3 or 4 months old I started using the gro-bags and they were brilliant, would recommend them to anyone!
