When is the gay community going get so uncomfortable with being an invisible class that GAY CIVIL RIGHTS WILL BE COME A NATIONAL ISSUE AND NOT JUST A "SEASONAL" CAMPAIGN issue for Conserv. Repubs to further lock you in the closet. By the time, election season rolls around it is too late to go on a counter-attack!!! If Gays are serious about their civil rights than you are going to have to MAKE YOUR PRESENCE KNOWN and MAKE AMERICA TOO UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE STATUS-QUO!!!!
Remeber power is never given, it must be taken!!!
These are just my thoughts what are your thoughts???

All these attempts to gain accepts thru the median of entertainment seems to be unsuccessful considering you have a pres. who wants to make constitutional amendment to ban same sex marraige and most states have their own laws or constitutional amendments against it. It seems that a different approach would be necessary. The median of television is powerful. However, nothing can replace good-ole national activism.
And since gay marriage is not legal (in most states) and gay sex is criminal (in many states) Gays are the invisible minority in American, esp. considering that a large number of them prefer living on the DL.

Oberon, I undertand what you are saying. I agree that we have many issues to deal with. However, the drug of gradualism and passivism is a cocktail of self-destruction. We can do both. We can champion health-care, ending the war in Iraq and gay rights. Our parents did it in the 60's and now it is our turn.
We should be the generation, that has had enough of this. We can not pass this burden of being an invisible class to the generation coming behind us. This is a moral issue, this is struggle against right and wrong, justice and injustice.
If we consider ourselves, christians, people of faith or simply decent people with a conscious we must fight for the struggle of equality.

The Bible is so clear in what it says about homosexuality. It calls it an abomination (Lev. 18:22). Incidents of homosexuality in Sodom and Gomorrah stirred up God's wrath against the twin cities (Gen 19:5-13; Jude 7). Even the New Testament speaks against homosexuality (Romans 1:26,27) and homosexual tendencies (1 Cor. 6:9). There really is no controversy.
A few years ago I heard a "preacher" on Oprah claim that the Bible never condemned homosexuality and that it actually endorsed that lifestyle. Unfortunately no one had the audacity to ask him exactly where in the Bible it did any such thing. It is very difficult for anyone to use the Bible to justify homosexuality. In fact it cannot be done. There is not one single scripture which directly or indirectly justifies homosexuality.
Homosexuals also claim that they were born that way and that they have a gay gene, such that they cannot be otherwise. I just find it hard to figure out how someone, if both parents were straight, could end up with a gay gene. Besides, this is based on very specious science. This certainly has not been scientifically proven. Further, if people have a gay gene, why stop there? Why not champion the cause of a polygamous gene, or a mass-murderer gene? These are choices people make. If you want to be gay, then be gay. Don’t try to make it look like you had no choice. Take responsibility for your choice and deal with it.
However I have heard an argument for homosexuality which have some merit. This position agrees and concedes that homosexuality is wrong. But it goes on to say that Christians are wrong to condemn homosexuals in the church. They accuse heterosexual Christians of employing double standards. Why are they so conservative against homosexuality, but so liberal concerning divorce and remarriage. The argument goes on to state the most remarriages (after divorce) are adulterous relationships, yet most Christians have no problem with that. But they have a problem with homosexuality. Why are they so vehemently opposed to homosexual fornication, while at the same time tolerant of certain brands of heterosexual fornication?
It's something to think about, isn't it? Needless to say that homosexuality is still a sin, whether or not Christians employ double standards. There is absolutely no doubt that homosexuals are in the wrong. But are we in the right? And by "we", I really mean "you", because I also believe that most remarriages after divorce are adulterous.
And what about gay rights? Many Christians are strongly opposed to gay rights, such that this has been a major political factor in the last two US presidential elections. But we need to understand that being opposed to homosexuality and being opposed to the rights of homosexuals are two entirely different things. Is there are biblical precedent that homosexuals should not be offered jobs in the public service etc solely on the basis that they are gay? What about people who commit heterosexual fornication? Should they also be debarred from becoming school teachers?
The purpose of the church is not to rescue the ship from sinking. The ship has already been declared sea unworthy and is already condemned to sink. Our job is to rescue the perishing. We do not accomplish that by legislating righteousness. Righteousness by definition can not be legislated. It can only be imputed by God through faith in Jesus Christ. It would be more advisory for the church to focus on its job of winning the lost and proclaiming Christ than launching political crusades against select groups of sinners.

I have been fighting for gay rights since I came out....about 15 yrs ago. A lot has changed to make our lives better. There has been a larger sense of acceptance across the board. When many don't agree, they are least are trying to live and let live. That is a major step that no one can say that 30 yrs ago, this would happen.
There are larger issues in this country and our society that need a greater focus, for now. We have a HUGE national deficit...a war that no one can explain the reason it happened, or when it will end...a healthcare epidemic where millions go without any coverage at all....to education....child abuse....etc.....
At this moment in time, there is not one of the considered presidential candidates that have eyes set on destroying the LGBT. We are the furthest thing from their minds. Not even our society is placing such stake on same-sex marriages this time around. They realize that at this time, it petty compared to the rest of the problems our current administration has put us into. No one is taking away any rights that we have worked to obtain. No one really has plans on it, either.
Yes, it is important that everyone has the same basic human rights. That we shouldn't be treated any differently for any reason. We are all equal and the same, and in turn, deserve the same treatment. BUT...and this is a HUGE BUT....we need not be greedy. At this time, we can afford to be self-LESS and allow the rest of the issues to take center stage. Really, look at it. What good is fighting for same sex marriage, when there are starving unhealthy children in this country? When our elders, those that fought and worked to make the US what it is....when these folks can even afford the medication that they need in order to live. But we want to sit here and whine and complain about something that really can wait…..that’s wrong, and in my opinion, completely selfish and undignified.
How can we expect others to help in our fight, if we don’t help them first? We need not push ourselves onto these people while they are simply struggling from day to day to live. Are we that arrogant and selfish? I would sincerely hope not.

El Chupacabra needs to get his brain examined.
There are no passages in the Bible that are, to any degree of certainty, condemning loving and committed homosexual relationships between consenting adults. The verse in leviticus that says it is an abomination for a man to lie with another man is quite likely addressing the practice of temple prostitution, when taken in the context of the time and culture in which it was written. Then there's also the issue of wondering just how seriously we should take this verse at all, when according to the verses surrounding it, eating lobster and wearing mixed fabric is equally offensive to the lord. As for Sodom and Gomorrah...that story is one about inhospitality far more than it's a story about gay sex. The sin of the people of those towns was that they wanted to RAPE GUESTS. Of course that's sinful! Not only were they inhospitable, they formed a mob and demanded Lot hand over his guests so that they could be raped. If I were God, I'd be pretty pissed off too.
As for the claim that no homosexual relationships were ever supported or condoned in the Bible...I think you should read this:

the fact that gay rights are being discussed in open national debates is a good indication of the progress the gay community has achieved over the last 30 years. Gay people are more empowered then ever and no longer hide in absolute fear and shame. Gay people are NOW is all facets of society and not just television, we are in politics, finance, law and business.
We have taken our power and we are currently working on the final steps of our agenda to insure we can keep it.

I hardly think the homosexual community is an "invisible class" on the contrary, they are following in the footsteps of oppressed groups before them and using entertainment as a way of gaining acceptance into mainstream society. Seem to be doing a pretty good job of it too.

I just had to correct you on something, yes gay marriage isn't legal in many states, but being gay or having gay sex, is not illegal. Oh, and gays are hardly an invisible minority, they may have been a silent minority, but Stonewall changed that.

Correct! Enough with the candle-light vigils and whining....get out there in peoples face. This is not about whether homosexuality is right or wrong it is about equal rights under the law. You can be a racist in the US but the law can't be racist, the same with gay rights....you don't have to like it, but gays must have equal protection under the law.

I hear you. But whoever said life was fair or uncomplicated?
This is a similar paradox to having local police become involved in illegal immigration issues. Or quarantining anyone with a contagious disease. Or affirmative action. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Wow, I'm not sure how to answer this question. I agree with you 100%. Gays need to "come out" if people are going to accept them more.
