P type has impurity of gp13 elements, which have 3 electrons in their outer shell, make 3 bonds, and therefore cause a hole in the tetravalent semiconductors.. Thus, majority carriers are holes.. Example, doping with Boron, Aluminium impurities..

N type has impurity of gp15, which have 5 electrons in their outermost shell, make 5 bonds, and thus have an extra electron which does not bond with the tetravalent semiconductor element.. Thus, majority charge carriers are electrons.. Example, doping with Phosphorus..

P is positve and n is damaging, i.e. a p form will bypass the advantageous 0.5 wave and block the damaging, and n form will bypass the damaging 0.5 wave and block the advantageous. wish this facilitates
