I've seen a lot of questions lately focused on the religion of various musicians and people stating that if they are atheists or satanists that they will no longer listen to their music.
So I was just wondering if the religious beliefs of musicians is important to you, why or why not? And if they practice a religion that you don't agree with, would you not listen to their music?

"Is Trent the Devil?" wow, that's an interesting one.
Actually one of the questions I read that inspired me to ask this question was related to Trent as well.

After reading that question, it made me wonder how others viewed the topic.
Personally, religion does not matter to me, whether I agree with their belief or not.. I'm in it for the music, and like most of you have said... as long as they don't get preachy there is no issue.

Not one bit. If I like the music, I'll listen. If not, I won't. A musician's beliefs are his/her business.
I guess I hold musicians to the same standards to which I hold all others: You're free to believe or not believe in whatever you wish, just as I am. However, don't force your beliefs on me, and don't try to send a message that my beliefs are somehow wrong because they're not yours.
That's where I exercise my right to stop listening.

No, not really. The topic of religion has come up a few times and I usually don't make an issue out of it. In the end, it's still the music that's the most important thing. I'll tell you something, the most annoying thing I see in here every day are the following questions:
1. Is Sevendust Satanic?
2. Is Korn Satanic?
3. Is 311 religious?
4. Is Trent Reznor the devil?
Who freaking cares? On the same token, I like bands like Flyleaf even though I don't necessarily share their strong conviction.
BC - Yeah, Trent freaks out a lot of people, including several who share space in this room. I suspect a lot of it can be traced to the song Heresy off The Downward Spiral. Damn, I love that song. As for Trent actually being the devil, his label bosses over the years might have better cause to think it than the listening public. :)

Usually the beliefs of the band are not a factor to me at all, unless they become way too overly preachy. As long as the music is good and the band or artist is talented, I don't care what they believe in. Same with political views, I don't have to agree with what the band thinks to enjoy it, eg System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine.

Absolutely not. A musician's religion plays no part as to whether or not i listen to them. All that matters is that i like the music.

No, the artists' religious beliefs do not affect whether or not I listen to their music. Everyone has their own beliefs and we should respect that. If they should decide to express their beliefs in their music we should be open minded and try to understand where they're coming from instead of judging them.

Only in that I don't listen to religious music. If a musician makes music that isn't religious in nature, I would listen to it regardless, IF I liked the music.
I don't know the religions of any musicians, other than the former Cat Stevens. Since I was never a fan of his even 30 years ago, I don't seek him out now.
But if a musician got preachy, I would avoid their work. Even it if it was not in the music. But I haven't seen it yet.

It doesn't bother me, as long as they don't start preaching their beliefs as more important than the music.
I don't think I know what religion any of the bands / artists I listen to are.

naww, I'm a Christian, an I wouldn't listen to music worshiping the devil or anythin like that, I LOVE rock, alternative, you name any band of that sort, it's my type. But I still enjoy Christian music- because that's something special to me also. I have such a huge variety in what I like in music but like I said I wouldn't listen to music worshiping anyone else but God. But I can still enjoy listening to hard rock without it affecting my Christianity beliefs.

Religion has NEVER even entered my mind when it comes to the music that I like. How would you even find out the religious belief of everyone in a band unless they let it be known? Why would it matter to me about what someone elses' beliefs are or what they like?
As an example that's like saying I'm not going to buy Coca Cola products until I find out what the religious beliefs are of all the officers of that company.

It wouldn't stop me from listening if they had different beliefs than me, unless they are just being overly preachy. I will admit though, I am drawn to musicians and bands who have the same beliefs as my own.
