A ram!

Journey to the Underworld
Odysseus wanted to speak with Tiresias, so he and his men journeyed to the River Acheron in Hades, where they performed sacrifices which allowed them to speak to the dead, including his mother, Elpenor, Tiresias, and Achilles. They all gave him valuable advice on how to pass the rest of his journey. Odysseus sacrificed A RAM and the dead spirits were attracted to the blood. He held them at bay and demanded to speak with Tiresias, who told him how to pass by Helios' cattle and the whirlpool Charybdis. During the Trojan War Odysseus met a Trojan boy captured by Achilles who was later freed to Troy, named Helios. He didn't remember the name until he heard how to get by Helios, the god.

odysseus and his crew have been held on the isle of the witch circe and she advises him to sail to hades and there sacrifice a black ram and drain the blood into a pit he dug in the earth. there the shades of the dead will come to drink but he must bar all until tiriseas, the blind seer, drinks first and advises odysseus how to get home. it was said that tiresias was struck blind by hera, the queen of the olympians and wife/sister to king zeus. it seems an arguement developed between the two gods upon the question, who gains greater pleasure during sex, men or women. hera claimed men do and zeus visa versa. they went to tiriseas because he was hermaphroditic, half man, half woman. his answer was, if sexual pleasure were divided into ten portions, seven would go to woman and three to men. in rage, hera struck tireseas blind but zeus rewarded him with excellent clairvoyance. tiriseas was also the seer that advised oedipus about how to remove the plague that ravaged thebes. and of course, tireseas showed odysseus the way home from hades.
