The spitting thing did happen, yes. Some kids were agitating the llamas at my local petting zoo, and it chose me to spit on.

I have an alpaca jacket, keeps me dry, but yes I have ridden llama back. Not so dirty as it sounds.

llamas are lovely animals, some you can get near if they are tame others are very skittish and nervous
