I think that's common among regular bowlers, so how do I deal with it and carry on my game? I'm talking about non-injury 'swellings'.

Having the thumb hole drilled a little large then usung tape in the back of the hole. Also putting your thumb in glass of ice works for bringing the swelling down. It works!

Swelling In Thumb

Most bowlers thumbs swell after a game or two depending on the temperature. (in rare cases some bowler's thumbs shrink). The answer to your question is to use tape in a thumbhole that has been enlarged enough to accommodate at least three layers. The tape can be inserted to match the sides of your thumb or on the back of your thumb - whatever feels best. Avoid putting tape on the side of the hole where you grip the ball as the tape would change the span of your grip between the thumbhole and the fingerholes. When using the tape in layers, stagger(1/16") the top end of each layer for easy removal ( I use a mini screwdriver as it works better than a knife). I use 3M electrical tape as it leaves little residue (glue). Over the course of a session, check the tightness of the thumbhole and remove tape when necessary.

I had my bowling ball drilled just a wee bit bigger just because of that.
Mine swells usually about the 5th frame.
