I've had sleep problems on and off since I was a teenager, and I'm in the middle of one right now. I lost my job about a month ago (it had nothing to do with me, the position was eliminated, but I was still really upset about it) and at first all I wanted to do was sleep. I'm a night person, but I was going to bed between 8 and 9 pm every night and waking up by 8am every morning for the first couple of weeks. Anyone who knows me knows that is very strange. But now I just can't sleep. I go to bed but just wind up laying there for 2 or so hours before I finally fall asleep, then sleep through the day. Any suggestions how I can get back to a somewhat normal sleep pattern?

I slept with my son from birth as he would not sleep in the bassinette a friend loaned me. I was in the bed without my partner so the bed was big enough for both of us and being a sleeper that doesn't move around a lot I was never worried about rolling over on him. I also didn't have any problems moving him into a crib at 4 months as everyone kept harping on me that I would have a real problem getting my child to sleep on their own after being with me. I actually bought a armsreach co-sleeper for my 2nd child who will be here in about 3 weeks (the one that sits next to the main bed). I'm really hoping I won't have a problem as you'd figure it is right next to the bed anyway. I would say if it is right next to you just keep up with it your baby will eventually sleep as that's what newborns do most of the time.

Try not to sleep during the day, and do some chores just to make your body tired a bit, so it will need a rest at night. If that won't do, try reading or watching some boring program on tv. That will help.

I am a non-sleeper and I put on a CD of books on tapes and let them read to me. I'm often asleep before the first sentence ends.
