I remember reading about an anime that's based off of some historic French conflict, I think it was the French Revolution, but I can't recall enough of the specifics to track it down now. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

It's a movie length anime.
It seems rather recent and well made.
I think it tries to remain historically accurate so there shouldn't be any fire ball launching monkey ninjas to my knowledge.

It think it's "Le Chevalier D'Eon".

It isn't movie length but it does talk about the French Revolution. It's is about fantasy and magic but it is based upon history but loosely.

The only thing that exactly matches your description is that it was recently made though I don't know if 2005 is still recent but the anime recently finished(Feb. 2007)
