Pardon me? Well let's see... Food is required in order to live. Sooo... no food means starvation and death. Hmm, forced starvation and death is against the law so YEAH! What kind of warped republican would think otherwise? How could you look at a citizen and tax payer and say hey you got injured or sick, maybe laid off and now you have nothing so we want you to just hurry up and die so we can move on and bring in a maid to sweep your rotting corpse away?
BTW- First, you do not waltz into just anyplace for a job, my mother was turned away by Target just last week for her age (a whopping 63 yrs old) after having been laid off from a finance position. And you need to have a job that pays your bills not just for your taxes. Secondly, you have to sign up and be accepted way ahead of time for most homeless shelters that are acutally for full time living not just a nighttime place to crash. 3rd, no little kids no WIC, and you have to prove a certain need and fit the bill to recieve SSI (I should know I am disabled and receive it). As a childless adult in Texas you receive $10 a month in food stamps and no more no matter what your age. And you may NOT use those $10 on toilet paper as it is not considered a necessity. Lastly unless you live in the sticks you do have to fit certain requirements to get government housing and you have to pay more than $2 a month, more like $500 for a 2 bdrm when we lived in it. However those are now converted luxury apts and rich ppl live in them

I think that food is a right. Fancier, more expensive food is a privilege. I mean, look at food banks. They're open to the public, and there's nothing fancy there. Even people in prison, who have murdered get food.

I think its a right to all humans... But that doesnt mean be lazy and sit around hoping for a handout.. I feel if those in the countries just for some reason cannot sustain any farms due to weather or whatever reasons, like wars, famine etc.. they need help... Its a shame to see the waste that the western world tosses daily when all this could go to 3rd world countries...

Interesting idea. Ever since the dawn of time, you had to do something to eat. Just a fact of life. So what are you proposing that people don't have to work and society should give them food?
I don't have any problem with giving food to the truly needy, but I would be hesitant to make it aright simply because it may encourage some people to become lazy.

We are lucky we live in a society where food is so cheap it wasn't always like that .yes everyone should have enough to eat .Try being without food for a day or two its terrible .Must be even worse in country's with famine and watching your children suffer from lack of nutrition .

There are organizations out there that provide people with food that can't afford it so it's not like we are all sitting here like 'duh what do we do now?'. If food didn't have a price it would be gone because people's natural greed would overcome them and they would indulge on more then needed. There would be many people in the world without food which brings us back to square one.

Food is neither a right nor a privilege.
It is a basic human need that does need to be offered, free of charge, to those that can't afford it.

i think everyone should get it
but they can
if they dont get food and they live in the US its their own fault
its not that hard to walk up to a mcdonalds and say uhm yea i need a job kthnx
or go to a homeless shelter and get some food
there are so many ways to get help with WIC and SSI and foodstamps there is no reason someone should be starving in the US they are just lazy
you dont even have to have a kid to get into public housing (at least by me) and rent if you have no job is like 2 bucks a month

Well we're supposed to be at the top of the food chain - so I guess the answer is yes - it should be a human, or humanitarian, right.
