With more than 30,000km of coastline, start counting. There are stretches of beachless coast where cliffs come down to the sea or mangroves rule but there are still thousands of kilometres of beachy coast left. Throw a dart at a map of Australia and go to the nearest coast. There's a beach near there.

Wow, I doubt anyone's ever attempted to count them. Literally thousands I would imagine, I think there's in excess of 30000 km's of coastline just for the mainland.
I guess it would also depend on your definition of a beach, does it need a name, does a rocky outcrop divide a beach into two, is a 20 metre wide sandy cove a beach? Coral cays? Would you count all beaches within Australia's territorial waters? If you count all these situations you would be talking tens of thousands.
