There are hundreds of different calendars. The western, Gregorian calendar was an adjustment of the earlier Julian calendar but other systems exist. The Chinese calendar is on a 12 year cycle, the Arabic calender is lunar and its year is about ten days shorter than the western one which is why Muslim festivals are not at the same time of year every year. The Persian, Zoroastrian calendar is a solar calendar which starts with the spring equinox and the months match the astrological calendar (farvarden = Aries etc.). The Aztecs and Mayans were known to have complex and accurate calendars.

The ones I know of are Chinese, Egyptian, Gregorian and Muslim.

I dare say that ancient civilizations had their own calender (eg aztecs, pagans, samarians etc) though I suppose you'd want ones that are in use now I guess.

Good question!
