Thought for the day:: Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant'
is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'!

Should not those proposing Amnesty also include such crimes as drug dealing, as in the quip above? And those who steal your identity and run up bills in your name as "Resource Reallocation Assistants"? Murderers as "Population Control Operatives"?

Why do we allow semantics to cover over those crimes that benefit those of certain political persuasions or with warped overall value systems.

I seriously doubt it is true sympathy, but willing to listen to how it is explained, by someone believing such seriously. Or how you can justify one and not the other.

Romeo ... I do not consider myself a fanatic, tho of course some might. But might be interesting why you call me a right-wing fanatic for asking. Could it be you are a left-wing fanatic and I stepped on a toe or two?

LaRein ... please give me the list of how ILLEGAL aliens help the US? Really help? And how drug pushers do NOTHING to help our country.

Will you feel as happy when an illegal Alien gets YOUR Social Security because they stole your SS # and applied first?

Dr Dave ...thanks. I am asking because I liked the e-mail I got from a friend including this, and wondered how those on YA would react. So far seems predictably!

It is interesting to me how people use semantics to cover up something that might be undesirable with a nice name, and also how it is used to disparage something that might be good or worth considering when it is disliked.

Although I am pro immigrant and support the concept of amnesty under certain conditions, I still use the term "illegal alien." I have no problem with the term. "Illegal" refers to a person's presence in a given area, not the person in general. "Alien" refers to someone that is foreign to the United States. Usually this means anyone who originated outside the United States and who has not become naturalized. However, I also see no problem using the other terms such as "undocumented worker." While I may agree with your intended message that we should call something what it is and not soften the title, your argument presented here is faulty. There is a substantial difference between drug dealers and illegal aliens. (Let's exclude those illegal aliens who are drug dealers for this answer.) Drug dealers intend to make a profit based on selling substances they know will harm the purchaser for a profit. They also know the act of selling drugs is considered a criminal offense and specifically immoral. Illegal aliens, on the other hand, are entering the United States to find a better life either in economic terms or to join family members (citizens or aliens) already in the United States. Some of them entering on visas who then overstay are not guilty of criminal statutes but rather administrative law. While violating any law of any kind may be considered immoral, many would say an alien's journey to find a way to a better life that will benefit his family is in fact the moral act that outweighs the immorality of violating immigration law. As a result, I cannot compare drug dealers to illegal aliens. Most illegal aliens simply want to make a living or be with family and are not proud of their illegal entry. Drug dealers on the other hand present an entirely different problem, and often for them it's a choice based on greed. (Before people send me messages that I know will come, yes, most illegal aliens are not proud of their illegal entry. I understand there are those on television and in courts who claim pride in illegal entry. These are the exceptions and do not represent all aliens.)

Better luck next time, (you have to learn to mask your truth better here on yahoo answers) throw in some big words , it confuses the liberals.........

It's a case of stupid political correctness gone too far. It's more of a crime to hurt a criminal's feelings than it is to be a criminal.Illegal simply means "Against the law".Why is everyone so blind????You nailed it.The laws should either be enforced,or taken off the books.....

First of all, even comparing the two, is offensive. I can go over all the ways illegal immigrants benefit our nation, but I am sure everyone is already aware. A drug dealer, identity thief and murderer do not benefit our country. It is as simple as that.
