as the most incompetent presidents of contemporary American history,he will go down as a big joke to most common people,to the special elite,he'll go down as an incredibly intelligent president..i say this for a few reasons.
1) Bush doesn't talk the way he does on TV!! His grand father was a u.s senator, his mother is a direct descendant of former president Franklin Pierce(elitist)...his dad,was CIA director,UN ambassador,Chinese ambassador and vice president and oil business man, bush grew up in luxury, wealth and in elite surroundings...WHERE did he learn how to talk like a TEXAS cowboy.???at YALE????, that talk is an act to appeal to majority "red neck" type Texas voters when he was governor,it worked and he uses it to appeal to country folks and they think he's "one of them"
2) He invaded a sovereign nation and deposed its leader and imposed a different system of government..this is why today,we celebrate and remember people like napoleon,Alexander the great,Genghis khan e.t.c...because of their conquests and glory,no one remembers a "nice" leader.
3) He has made a lot of money from the war,his cronies, haliburton and the oil company conglomerates make billions both from tax payers and oil deals in Iraq....so y'all can think he's an idiot but you're the ones getting tricked

Time must pass before a true assessment of GW Bush will materialize. Only after those people that are associated with him & his actions or inactions have long left the scene will a review of his presidency, without bias for or against it, will materialize. Only then will we know what historians really think of him & his presidency. As we read about past presidents in history books so shall our grandchldren read about Bush. Let us hope that the nation does not become so tainted that a true assessment of history is not distorted to any political view.

He will go down as the leader who although didn't start the rev, created single handedly a new era of war and violence marked by the bombing of a major American landmark, he single handedly led to reforms within schools, the wilting of our treasury, and the MOST EXPENSIVE american war that did not have a major goal, IN FACT why don't we say that this war is nonesssential/costly/unorganized/without goal and yet it still has no end in sight.

He's going to go down as the epitome of American culture at its finest. (jk) More like the person who was playing around and since the ppl didn't like the other candidate (honestly, who wants gore as our president?) he got picked.

As an aberration and an abomination. A warmonger and a liar. One who had no regard for the constitution or cival rights. A dicatator more than president. A Tyrant and a madman.

This is how the world should celebrate his coming departure:

It ought to be commemorated, as the Day
of Deliverance by solemn Acts of
Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to
be solemnized with Pomp and Parade,
with Shows, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells,
Trumpets, Bonfires and Illuminations
from one End of this Continent to the
other and all over the earth from this
Time forward forever more. On this
joyous day, a national holiday should
be created, which would also be
celebrated throughout the world.

A combination of the worst qualities of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan with a few of their best qualities (like friendly, smart wife).

He will be uniquely perceived for Iraq -- not even Viet Nam was so associated with one President. It's not too late for that to turn out well, from an historic perception.

A year ago, the Washington Post asked several historians for their opinions. Here are two of them, and more are available through the newspaper's search feature.

I hope he goes down as one of the worst presidents in history, but realistically that isn't going to happen.

Bush is very similar to Truman, LBJ, and Nixon.

Like Truman, he was extremely unpopular and started an unnecessary war. However, Truman was able to rebuild his reputation because the anti-war Republicans of that time disappeared off the face of the Earth during the 50s (Ron Paul is the only remnant of that particular period of the Republican Party's history). After Bill Buckley founded Conservatism and the Neo-Conservatives split from the Liberals (which was due to Kennedy's refusal to start a nuclear war with the Soviets during the Cuban Missile Crisis), there was nobody left who didn't like Truman. This is unlikely to be Bush's fate, as the anti-war left is not going to fall off the face of the Earth.

LBJ was the last president who increased the government as much as Bush has. He also was ideologically in line with Bush. Like Bush, LBJ started the Vietnam War by lying to the American people (LBJ used the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which never happened; Bush told a lie about some "Weapons of Mass Destruction" that did not exist). LBJ was well-aware that he could not win in Vietnam by at least 1965, but stubbornly refused to end the War. We do not yet know if Bush is aware that he can't win in Iraq, but unless he is a complete moron (and I don't think he is, because he could not have cheated to win 2 elections if he was), he is probably aware that winning the Iraq War is not possible. Historians are currently trying to increase the ranking of LBJ, even though his presidency was an absolute disaster, because like Woodrow Wilson, they believe that while he caused disastrous results, he had worthy ideals. This could happen with Bush in the future and is probably the most likely possibility.

The 3rd president whom Bush is similar to is Richard Nixon. Like Bush, Nixon was a crook. Like Bush, Nixon knew how to cheat in an election (though he didn't need to do so). Like Bush, Nixon had no respect for civil liberties. Like Bush, Nixon refused to end a war despite popular opposition to that war. Like Bush, Nixon illegally wiretapped people. Like Bush, Nixon targeted his enemies for reprisal (Bush-Cheney outed Valerie Plume; Nixon kept an enemies list and conspired against those on the list). It is possible that Bush could remain extremely unpopular, just like Richard Nixon and that only the most extreme conservatives might ever think of Bush as anything other than one of our worst presidents. However, Nixon had to resign in disgrace because he was being impeached and everybody knows that there won't be an impeachment trial for Bush, as he is a lame duck on his way out of office.

Most likely, Bush's legacy will be similar to that of LBJ. Bush will start off unpopular, but eventually be regarded as near great (even though he doesn't deserve to be).

As for Bill Clinton, I think he'll be regarded as a minor president and will be in the middle of the pack in the presidential rankings. He fought no major wars and he didn't do much in the White House except have sex with his interns.
