I live in a snow area, and how we best get around is with a truck. The reason is really simple; A car is just too low to the ground, and when in deep snow, the snow will act like a jack under the car, and lift it right up off the wheels, and traction is impossible. A truck that is 4x4, and high off the ground will go when nothing else will. I know a truck may be light in the rear, but we usually load some weight in the bed to fix that issue. You can't go if your underside is acting like a sled for the rest of the vehicle. In a car, front wheel drive does the best, but if the car is low to the ground, you can forget about going anywhere in snow that is over about 8-10 inches. The higher the vehicle sits, the better, as this gets your body & frame up out of the mess.
Glad to add my 2 cents worth!!!

Old and front wheel drive Sunbird would be the way to go for snow/salt with some really good Snow tires And a new Exaust welded to it. But if you must Drive a Brand New Car or Trucklet. You should think about all wheel drive systems. Mitsubushi And Subaru small 4 door sedans. Crossover sport Utilitys are everywhere with all wheel drive. Subaru Outback Nissan Rogue. And Others

I've owned 8 Chevy Blazer 4x4's in a row due to work. I've been in 19" of snow and drove as if it was nothing. Even can take off twice as fast as other 4x4's. But also I've never driven any other 4x4 to know the rest.
You can find a 80-100k 2000'ish Blazer for say $3500-$5500. I spend on avg $800 a yr in maintenance including oil. Sucks in gas, bout 17mpg. But if you live in bad area for rain or snow, you'll always get home in this truck.

Something like a Volvo XC70. It has the ground clearence the 4WD and its just like a car so well balanced. Proper mud pluggers like the Land Rover Discovery or Mitsibishi Shogun are good but standard RWD unless you select 4WD in transmission. Pick up trucks are to light in the rear and standard cars are to low for deep snow.

An Audi or Subaru are great cars in the snow because they are AWD.
Any SUV or Pickup, small or large, with 4WD or AWD will also be good in the snow.

An AWD car. A truck's rear is too light for good traction- the bed is light, and a SUV is too top heavy, puts pressure on the tires for traction when manuvering. All an all, a Subaru or any AWD car with traction control.

For not getting stuck: any AWD with decent ground clearance.
For stability once you are moving in slippy conditions: a minivan or minivan based (Chrysler Pacifica, Buick Enclave, etc) vehicle cannot be beat. These have some ground clearance, long wheelbase for their length and relative low center of gravity (they are hard to tip over).

Easy on the gas...
Easy on the brakes...
Steady with the steering wheel... (no sudden changes, and give yourself plenty of distance to stop safely.)
Make sure you have good tread, and try to keep a nearly full tank of gas for the additional weight in the back.
Replace your wipers, and be sure to clean ALL the snow off your car, especially the headlights, hood, top, trunk lid,and tail lights.
