I admit, I read more in the past than I do now. But I actually found reading enjoyable and a world I could escape into easily when I wanted. I'm hoping college eventually gets me back into reading for fun.

My brothers seem to dislike reading. I've never seen them do it!

Anyway, some of my fondest memories have come from book reading. From a ghost haunting a house to a Nazi Youth Boy discovering his Jewish heritage, these kinda books were pretty exciting.

You will hate what you read so much in college that it will make reading what you want to very enjoyable when you get the chance.
Also, the internet requires extensive reading. Just because some people don't sit down and read a novel cover to cover doesn't mean that they hate reading.

I know what you mean.....

When I was in school, I used to spend so much time on reading novels & all sorts of other books....plus I'd hunt for some book I've been wanting to read as if I have nothing better to do:)

But now, I've sort of lost that passion....mostly because I have to do a lot of reading daily for academic purposes.....so, when I take a break, I just don't feel like grabbing another book.

I've no idea what's wrong with the new generations though. They don't read at all. it's probably because things are more technological & everything comes easy. So, reading a book is considered doing it the hard way, when you could simply log in to the net & download whatever you want....
The visual & audio media are more popular now.

I guess we can't blame the people...it's just the trends that have been set. The world is changing...
But I agree with what you said 100% on how some of the fondest memories or fantasies are simply originated from books......
I think I even had a crush on some fictional charactor in some teenage series. Who was it...? Hmm...I think it was Todd Wilkins in Sweet Valley High series.....
But when they produced a TV series out of it. The guy who played Todd's charactor had absolutely no resemblance to the author's description & it destroyed my beautiful fantasy:)he,he..Yeah...tell me about it!!
Call me naive, but I was just about 14 those days!!!

Cheers!!

Our technological advances have made it easy to NOT read. You don't even have to read to get the information anymore, chances are you can find what you're looking for as a book on CD or tape. There are also lots of other things to do now...video games, the internet, cable tv, other hobbies...some people just don't have time left.

A lot of younger people associate "reading" with "school" and "hating learning." Or they find it difficult. I think that's why they hate it and prefer any alternative they can find.

Stick with your reading. I've read the one about the Nazi Youth, and it was a good one...don't stop looking for good books. You will always be rewarded!!!

I still read a lot. Yeah people don't read because it's too boring for them and they don't really try to get into the story. I'm used to it so I can easily grab a book and come coffee and go read for a good 2 hours.

I think it has to do with the new technology,
people prefer jabbing on the phone and watching
reruns all day than read a good book, it's also time
consuming, or people just don't have time,
but I like reading.

my sister goes to college and she hates reading...she only reads when she's sick and i don't know anyone who reads.
unless you count my best friends..i got them into reading and now one of them follows novels like crazy - just meg cabot stuff - and the other one only reads what i write - i'm working on a novel - i'm pretty proud of the change i've done with my best friends...reading is a great thing and i like making people see it from my point of view.
nice question

some people do not make time?or they get lazy and watch the film instead but the book is always more explicit and in depth than the film?you stick in and get back to your reading and you will achieve more and its good to take time out and chill with some background music and peace with a good book

they could be uninterested in it, lazy, think of that it is a waste of time, or purely can no longer study good. I certainly have the comparable difficulty the place I study lots and get made relaxing of because of the fact of it.

Becuase young kids these days find reading to be un-cool.
as they grow older they will read more.
