This is a somewhat complicated story. I am signed into a one-year lease with a roomate. A few months ago, I left town for an extended amount of time due to stress related health problems. About a month and a half later, my rental office refunded my half of the rent for the current month. It turned out she had not paid the rent for that month. After weeks of my calls being ignored and different stories being told, I decided to return (1000s of miles) and see what was going on. Our rent is now 2 and a half months late and we are being sued. I return to her having moved a total stranger in, who also is not paying, and alot of my belongings missing or moved around. She gave me a finacial sob story, and having had hardship in the past, I feel badly. My rental office is offering for me to evict them from the lease and carry on in a one bedroom, less expensive apartment. I feel very guilty. I am not perfect either, but I have had a steady job for 2 years and neither of them has steady work.

I feel as though I have been degraded (lied to, stolen from) , and it is also a huge liability for me to continue on with them. Paradoxically, I also feel that I should help them out in their time of need. Please help

Also, I am already responsible for the entire past due amount (i am able to do this, although things will be tight for awhile). She keeps claiming she will get the money in a "Few weeks"....I already have a judgement pending against her and others for the full amount paid in X number of days, and I am prepared to take her to court if necessary, where I will more than likely win. I am just unsure if I should hold out hope that she will pay eventually, or should I just pay it and evict her.

You should move out and evict them. It's one thing to have trouble, it's quite another to lie, evade and "misplace" stuff. The sob story is just to stick you with the trouble.

You have an opportunity here to sever your financial connection. If you don't take it, you may end up liable for more than your share.

The promises about the future are as good as the promises in the past. When she signed the lease, she promised to pay her half. Instead of promises kept, it's evasion, lies, theft and debt.

Those judgments aren't worth the paper they are printed on. If she doesn't have the money on hand, you won't get it. Even if she did, she'll fight and delay any payment. Unless you are willing to back to court and deal with the beaurocracy you will eventually drop it and she gets out of payment. Her promises are bull.

A friend would have told you what was going on. A friend would not have moved another person in without your knowledge, more so an unpaying person. However you do it, get away.

If half the family approves of the move, and it is cheaper for a more improved room, I would say, go for it. Getting more for his money would be an improvement to his life. Now how about the meals? Are they full meals or snacks. Do they get fruit every day. And what about pill dispension. Is someone in charge of that, to eliminate mistakes. Some places have the overseeing of an RN. But also many places can't afford the services. And does the dispenser of the pills, wear rubber gloves for sanitary reasons? There's much to consider before you displace him. Make sure he can handle the transition, so he doesn't get afraid after moving. I have a friend, who died two days after her move. She was treated badly by staff in that wing, and she went into a catatonic state of mind. And didn't recognize her daughter. And then she died the next day. So weigh things carefully.

So you want to help the ones that have helped themselves to your stuff and your good name?
Oh boo hoo. Sounds like you not only are getting the shaft from them but you are about to roll over for this sob story ( i bet this is not there first time) Get rid of the problem or you will end up being sued as well.
