This depends on the teacher. Many teachers are aware that students use Yahoo! Answers and other similar internet resources. Some, however, aren't comfortable with technology and aren't aware of the possiblities for research or even cheating.
Is there a solution? Students attempting final year subjects in Victoria, Australia, are required to complete assessment tasks during classtime, when they are supervised. However, there isn't enough time to really do this for most classes. There is software available that checks for plagarism, but I doubt to check Yahoo! Answers. So, no, I don't think there's an easy answer.
Teachers do generally have a good idea of a student's writing 'voice' and level of ability. When a piece of work doesn't seem 'quite right', a teacher might do an internet search to check for plagerism or ask a student further questions to establish that they have a firm knowledge of the content of their answer.

I hope they realize that and I wish that Yahoo had a special button for reporting the many questions that are clearly just lazy school kids who can barely even spell the words in their questions.
It really, really bugs me not only that it is clearly OK by yahoo for student users to abuse this website like this to their own detriment but that someone always comes along and answers their questions for them!
I assume your post is a criticism of this practice and I absolutely agree with you. Teachers, professors, parents and Yahoo need to know that this happens all the time.
Also, hate to be a nitpicker but it 'raises the question' it does not 'beg' it. To 'beg the question' is a form of argumentative or logical fallacy. Sorry, I couldn't help it! It bugs me when people use this incorrectly. Cite: http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/begging-the-question.html

I'm a future history teacher, and I use the history section to test my own knowledge in history. I have realized the overwhelming majority are students looking for easy answers to homework. My idea for assignments will be checking them against wikapedia as well as other software to check against plagiarism (and yes there is software available). There may be students that are getting away with it now but since some answers come directly from wikapedia, but sooner or later, they will get caught and most schools have strict policies against plagiarism.

This would be one of the reasons why in the UK students are tested in exams, not on work done in their own time.
And yes, I'm sure many teachers are fully aware of Yahoo Answers. I'm also sure that they are aware that, in the long run, students who blindly copy down other people's answers are only hurting themselves. How many times do you expect them to say to their students that in the long run their education is for their own benefit, nobody else's?
But there's no harm in asking for help to understand your homework here. There's even a special section for it!

Do students realize that the teachers not only know this, but Yahoo is out to get 'em! A rabid Hampster patrol will show up at their door and sic infected hamsters on 'em. Beware, the next time you open your lunch box!

I doubt that they do, but a more important question would be, do they care? I think the answer would be no, especially junior and senior high teachers
