I am a college student who wants to be a journalist/photographer for a newspaper after school. I am trying to decide on the best major. I kind of want to leave my options open for being a history professor so I am thinking major in history and minor in communications. Or would major in communications concentration in print news and a history minor be better? Any other suggestions. Thank you.

I think minoring in history would be better, taking the elective options for the minor in whichever part of history interests you or that you would want to teach or in more broad level perspective classes.

I think a Mass Com major with focus in print has more geared for helping you skills wise in actually becoming a better journalist/photog/and page designer. Get what I'm saying? It is kinda like a major in a field like Journalism has more to offer you vocationally than that in History, however with a minor in it you can always go back and study it later or obtain a credential if you want to teach at a lower than college level.

Good Luck!

I would worry a little about the fact that newspapers have been so much on the decline in recent years, so I think you would be smart to look at something else along with the print news area (I'm assuming that you already know that such majors exist where you plan to go).
