Not quite to one word, but Tiny URL will reduce links to the shortest possible.

Apart from using a HTML code (if enabled), you cannot shorten a url simply to one word. Links such as tinyurl will get you close, but never one word itself - as this is the protocol needed to access a website.

you can name a link anything you want - one word or just one letter. You don't have to make the www.etc visible to the user. The html code you would need is
Yahoo
All the user will be able to see on the website is a link that says Yahoo.

I was always under the impression that you could name a link anything you wanted to by right button, edit.

whilst you are in edit mode..like making an email or a doc... highlight the word you want to use, right click it, and select 'add hyperlink' and then add your internet address, this will do it for you

You can save it as your favorite site and name it whatever you want. And all you have to do is click on favorite and then the word you saved it to.
