sun is a star .the star around which the planets revolve is considered as the sun of that particular solar system .every solar system has a unique star as its sun and the fact is that there are many solar systems in the universe.there r even more bigger stars in our universe then the sun of our solar system.so, the sun is not considered as a star infact a star is considered as a sun

First "STAR" is a term in general given to heavy, massive, luminious heavenly bodies or revolving objects in their own orbits around a center known as galactic center.(similar to all eight planets revolving around our star "SUN").Our SUN is a medium size STAR and produces all the ultimate energy on earth which we are using now.You can consider SUN as the founding father of life.

A star is an enormous ball of gases that burns the gases to create light.
Our planet happens to orbit around a relatively small and cold star that we have named 'the sun' or 'sol'.

Because by all definitions, it is; "Sun" is just the name we have for the single star that governs our solar system, just as "Earth" is just the name we have for our planet - that doesn't mean that the rock on which we reside is an "Earth", it is a planet just named Earth.

"The Sun (Latin: Sol) is the star at the center of the Solar System"

According to few mythological concepts and scientific too, A STAR is defined as
1). Must emit energy or light abundunt.
2). Must be fixed at its position
3). Bigger size with huge gravity of attraction
are few properties.
SUN(as far as our planetary system) holds all the above properties and thus is a STAR
