I have written a collection of things over the years and would like to write a book. My question - what situation do I focus on? I would love to write about all of them but would anyone want to read a book based on 1 person's experience?

To give some background - I am a sexual abuse survivor as my bio father was my perpetrator. I was a single mom at 19 yrs old, caring for a 1 pound preemie. I also released my son for an open adoption at 22 yrs old (4.5 yrs ago) because I could not parent 2 children by myself.

Essentially, my goal is to reach out to young women, maybe in similar situations. I have so much passion for helping people that I really don't know where to begin. I do not have a degree but I do hold a love for writing.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and Merry Christmas to all!

Start with an outline. Write out in order what the things you want to include are. Then go from there.

Merry Christmas to you - God Bless Us Every One!

Careful or you may wind up in my next novel.

the basis of being an author is having the long standing passion to write. meaning it's not a passing fancy. it sounds like you are working hard on this goal and so, i think you have what it takes to see it through.

your story sounds like an interesting one. usually self help books or inspirational books do well.

the key to good writing is write what you know. this is where the passion comes from and will show up in your writings. so i think your set with this. don't hold back. if it sounds to harsh? it never is.

reaching to touch others emotionally through your words is what makes for a hit book. so don't hold back. be honest and let it pour.

though you might do well on your own. i think that signing up for a writers class is a must. there you will not only be getting all the know how. but, you will be getting a group of critiqes. that will help mold your work.

it's frusterating to finish a book then to find a group of critiques and they are not touched by it. then get ideas from them. it would mean rewriting the book again, which would frusterate any aspiring writer.

always stick to format. and always pick a style of writing that is popular for the topic. though, your own style might be great to you. an editer for a company might not pick the book up.

so, though writing is an artistic endevour, pick then stick to a writing style. you will learn all this in a class room.
you don't have to go to a major college you can go to a community college. they are just as good.

well, good luck with this. i hope you see it to the end. i know you will.

I pass judgement on a well guide, similar to I might pass judgement on a well film. My quantity one rule is, if it makes me cry, it is handed my scan. I like books that make me think as even though the characters and their instances are truly. I desire to omit that I'm even studying. A well guide is person who maintains you up into the early hours of the morning. You discover your self crying, shaking in worry or pleasure. Those are the books which can be "epidermis breaking" individually. So a few folks might love Twilight, different's hate it. As lengthy because it made any individual, someplace get the ones chills and goosebumps, it is regarded a well guide in my head. Well-written does not neccessarily imply it has to have significant vocab and such a lot of main points you do not even realize what is going down, to me it simply implies that the creator is aware of what she or he is doing with their tale. Oh good, I'm rambling, so I'll quit. But virtually, a well guide has to seize you via the hair and throw you into a global you certainly not knew existed and depart you awe-struck and puzzled while it is over.

I to have always thought about writing a book but I really having nothing to "exciting to share." I think that everything that you addressed would be a great topic for a book. I think you really could help young women get threw struggles they may be encountering. I agree that you would probably want to start with an outline. Go from there and let us know when you've finished!! Good Luck

First off, my heart goes out to you because of what you've had to endure. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. About the book : First research every book written on the subject. Then you write down in detail what your book is about, what subjects it is going to cover and what you hope to accomplish with writing the book. Now before you tell any book publisher of your idea you must first: print out what you wrote before and mail it Certified mail to your self but don't open it. That step copyrights your idea. Then I would get a Dragon Speak software. That's the program where you talk and it prints your words. That's where I would start.

No one ever said you needed a degree to be a writer.

I think your story will help many people out there who feel as though no one understands them.
Write an outline if you dont know where to begin.
Put in areas that are important to you.

I would like to read a book based on someone's experience.
Good luck writing.

Sarah,

it sounds to me like you have an inspirational story to tell, and that story is your life, and how you've overcome many daunting challenges. If you wrote a 4 or 5 part autobiography, where each part focussed on one challenge and how you overcame it, that would be an excellent way to reach young people.

People read autobiographies all the time, and biographies of heroes. You sound like a hero in my book.

Best wishes, and good luck.
