Besides it being "against da rule" (french accent)...its just not logistically sound...the goaltender would have to skate around the ice and to the box and benches to talk to the ref..I mean it wouldn't be so bad, but it might slow down the game if nothing else...and I dont think a goalie is supposed to cross centre ice either because its a penalty or because unoficially it means you want to fight the other goalie.

NHL doesn't want the goalie to skate all the way across the ice to talk to the refs about a call or whatever and delay the game so they made it a rule that goalies can't be Captains or Assistant Captains.

Because the Captain or the Alternate is the only player who talks to the officials on ice. They relay information to the coaches. Since the Goalie stays down by the net, he's not the best one to be relaying information. That's WHY it's against the rules for a Goaltender to be captain.,

Because they can't. It is against the rules for a goalie to be a captain or an alternate captain.

goaltenders can't wear the "C" or the "A" becuase what if something happened on the ice and the ref didn't see it or decideds to ignore it? is the goaltender gonna just leave the net and begin arguing with him during play and allow an easy goal?

also, playing in between the pipes is the most important position on the ice. 60+ mins, stretching whenever you get the chance to, setting up faceoffs in the circles, covering the puck, left/right, dive, slide/glide. they have enough things to worry about and winning the game for their teams.

Well researched answer, Mike. Funny that they put the likes of Luc Robitaille on that same page. I never remembered him as much of a leader, lol. I would have expected to see Mark Messier, Steve Yzerman, or Ray Bourque.

Same reason the catcher is the guy who communicates with the ump in a ball game.
