I think Alex Smith has some potential still, he just needs to learn the offense better. Smith played well under Norv Turner last season, but struggled without him. If they can get an offensive minded coach or coordinator, Smith will excell. San Fran should give him another couple years. If he has not progressed then they should cut ties.

I think they should keep him. I mean what could they really get for him in a trade that would make them improve alot?
Alex Smith and the rest of the offense just needs to get better chemistry. I mean they got frank gore--great RB
They got some good receivers and vernon davis at the tight end is a good option if they would go to him more. They need a little more improving maybe pick up some defense players But i think they will get better with time and no reason to just get rid of smith as of yet. I read rumors of smith and the coach not getting along. That would be the only problem.

He is not going to be a probowl QB, but the 49ers cant really get rid of him after all that money they invested in him, like idiots. He came out of UTAH and had 1 good season, what in the world were they thinking?

Alex Smith is a decent quarterback and has shown signs of being a decent one but has never had a team around him. Sure they gave him Frank Gore but they have yet to give him a coach who knows what their doing or an offensive line. Lets not even mention that their receivers have not been living up to their names. I say keep Alex Smith and draft some linemen and possibly a little bit of a defense.

Hill will start for the remainder of the season. Alex Smith never has had a supporting cast, so who really knows if he is any good or not, sure he has made dumb mistakes though. I do see them getting rid of him and drafting another qb and if hill does alright the next 2 games, he will be the starter next season as they prepare the next QB

It doesn't matter what kind of team you build around him, he will still suck. I don't see the 49ers even being able to trade him, what other team would be stupid enough to pick up his contract? The 49ers have proven to be incapable of finding a real QB since Garcia.

I'm a Lions fan and I suffered through my team waiting way too long on Joey Harrington. If I were Sasn Fran I'd cut my losses now. Smith reminds me of Joey
