hi, my baby is 11.5 month old, she has a mild cold with only some cough!but the physician prescribed cefixime syrup for her!! why cefixime is prescribed for a baby who has never taken antibiotics in her life?iam a pharmacist and i didnt give her cefixime and i gave her co- amoxiclave156 syrup by my own,and now she feels better.whats your idea?thnx in advance!

(cefixime) should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria. It could be that your GP has had good experience with the drug and perhaps is not up to date with amoxiclave data. Hope you daughter is feeling a lot better

Perhaps you should have voiced your concerns with your doctor? If I'm correct, what you precribed and dosed is an antibiotic - these are being used less and less partially due to the long term effects on teeth, for a start!

Truthfully, I wouldn't have given a child at that age ANYTHING for a mild cold/cough! Mother Nature deals with these things best.

I'm not sure but you should never change a prescription-not only is it unsafe, it is also illegal without doctor approval!
