I dont know ....Most of the people I know hate reading too. They think its a waste of time when you can just watch tv or , wait for the movie to come out. I think its all in how youre raised. If reading is introduced at a young age, and taught that it can be done for fun, and not just for 'education', then people are probably more prone to enjoy it later on in life. My mother read to me every night growing up, and we'd make frequent trips to the library. I got my own card and loved picking out my own books and reading them. She made reading seem like a fun adventure. As a result Im now a huge book nerd and would definitely rather curl up with a good book than a good movie any day. I love reading, and I love how you can just get lost in a really good book for a while. Its too bad people are afraid to pick up a book. I guess in an age of instant gratification, not many people want to bother with reading.
To tell you the truth, I get excited when people give me books as a gift. If I picked up a present and figured out it was a book, I'd be the one saying "Wow I hope I get this one".

300 million people in this country and you think we're all the same? I love to read and friends & I swap books back and forth a lot.
But a person's reading choice is a very personal one. It tells a lot about the inner person. I once bought a Bible for work gift exchange. The young man who received it didn't act overjoyed but told me later he never had a Bible and was proud to own one now.
Books aren't the usual silly, light hearted gifts people come to expect at an exchange but it doesn't mean it's not appreciated.

The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald. If you don't like reading, it's short and fairly easy to read. Slaughterhouse 5 by K. Vonnegut is short and even easier to read, but there's little love or mystery, and I think it's pretty weak.

I enjoy reading, especially if it's a good book. Well I don't think many people enjoy reading if it's a dull or boring subject. People in America do like reading- I know Oprah does haha and my grandma. Your gift happened to go to a girl who was hoping for a Macy's gift card so she could go shopping.

actually not all Americans are DUMB and LAZY its just some of the younger Generation. I ask people in here about what book they read they answered.
unfortunately most people in a,erica are very ignorant, and LAZY when comes to reading books, i don't know why, maybe that's reason the current generation is very DUMB
i would agree with tent: just average IQ of americans sometimes very surprises me. unfrtunately we have very uneducated people. people know more about damn celebrities ot who slept with whom or football rather than read a good book.

Many folks are to busy trying to keep up with the latest computer speak. And it takes so long for one to decipher through the e-mail there's just no time for any other literature.
But one must admit that ignorence can be bliss.

When you have a president who can't pronounce "nuclear" correctly, what do you expect? Some Americans dislike reading, many enjoy it. Don't forget, 50% of Americans have below average intelligence so a few are not going to like reading.
