Are Personality Conflicts Inevitable Whenever Humans Interact?

This forum is designed to be a place where questions and answers are exchanged. Community Guidelines clearly and explicitly set out rules which preclude chatting, ranting, insulting other forum users and many more things besides.

Yet in th 3 months or so that I have been here, in most every section, it seems more like a social networking site. Q&A are posted to provoke responses. Set agendas. Retaliate or disprove ideas set out in previous Q&A. And I wonder if this were not the case, whether the site would exist, or perhaps just become one vast Homework Help forum, relying on the generosity of those able to contribute.

Given that (in my view), this forum is more Edutainment and Social Networking than some "pure" Q&A ideal, and the human tendency to use all means of communication to relate to each other,

Yes. Conflict is inevitable. And conflict isn't always bad.

Conflict, when handled properly, can lead to creation .. and reconcilliation ... and new insights ... and learning.

Yes, conflicts are inevitable. What I think is unnecessary is the personal attacks.
Even here, where we don't hear each other's voices but get a sense from each other's words, we tend to feel friendship towards some and animosity towards others.
If your first responses are to like a person, you give them a lot of leeway when you note a difference of opinion; you are forgiving and understanding.
If your first responses are to dislike the individual, there is no such patience.
So many are careful with their words and you can see that they want to communicate and establish the social interaction you speak of. Other people are mean spirited and make rude comments or send emails because they think that is fun.
More than likely, we find like minds and get satisfaction from the relationship. I would actually like to meet with several or, at least, talk on the phone. Coming here is like visiting with old friends that you never met. I think that there is more of that for me. I agree that "this forum is more Edutainment and Social Networking." That is why I am here. Star for you, kid!

Conflict is aways inevitable where human beings are concerned. However, I don't understand why Yahoo has guidelines if they're not going to enforce them and have some oversight to the forums. Sites that have volunteer moderators do keep the viciousness and retaliatory stuff under control with minimal cost.

Some would say that rules are meant to be broken and that certainly seems reasonable with some rules. But others, like calling out each other for all-out wars of words, it is not reasonable to overlook. It's like The Punch and Judy Show or The Three Stooges here sometimes only with evil intent instead of entertainment as its goal.

It is true, we are animals and we need to take care about our own stuff. It is true, we are individuals with different interests, opinions and convictions. Obviously, we cannot avoid conflict. I would call this a simple conflict: The conflict of individual interest with other individual interests or with the communal system. But what, if the communal order is itself the product and the origin of conflicts? I would call this second order conflict. I imagine, that the communal system would imprint its contradictions on all members of the system. May be the members would try to protect themselves against this. They would employ different strategies for doing that. But the different strategies would turn out to increase the original second order conflict. Thus the second order conflict would acquire its own dynamics independent of simple conflicts. Well, it's just an idea. Or more than that? Some people may experience the world in this way, and others don't.

Personality conflicts ARE inevitable where ever and whenever humans interact. Q&A is great for me. It gives me a way to ask and answer questions that I don't normally get to in my everyday life. Some peoples questions and answers are very thought provoking and I enjoy others points of views. Do I rant sometimes? Of course! It is fairly harmless and there are no lasting consequences for asking or answering in a way others may not agree with. I live in a VERY conservative area of the world and am not socially allowed to ask or answer in that way this site allows. It has given me some freedom to speak the "unspeakable" in terms of my everyday social realm.

having been an avid people watcher my entire life i was thrilled to have stumbled onto "y q&a". much more than the obvious intellectual value it offers, answers is a way to examine people beyond the surface. we are all here interacting without the distraction of our physical selves. if nothing else i am more certain now that ego often over rides good sense and always will. yes, apparently conflicts are inevitable even without instigators, stirrers, and trolls.

Absolutely.
This forum differs only from real life interaction in that we cannot see the other person.
Our personalities are displayed by the words we use.
I use mine very carefully and try not to upset anyone here.

peronality has to have a big effect. People react to questions in different ways, but it is a reaction to a question. Thats why you get varied answers
