I am sick and tired of people answering questions with self righteous moral diatribes about how "this is wrong" and "you shouldn't do that". Whatever happened to Yahoo! Answers being a place to get answers to a question, straight forward, with no one using the forum as a pulpit to "teach a person a lesson" about abortion, child abuse, neglect, etc.? If I ask a question about something specific I expect an answer. If I ask specifically for an opinion I expect an opinion.

I know I am sick of it. I was just wondering when Yahoo! answers became Yahoo! opinion.

What are your thoughts on the psychological mindset of the individuals who continually disredard all the rules and policies that were set forth to help people get the "answers" they are looking for instead of opinions?

Yes, I did ask for thoughts, which are opinions. : )

Do you want my opinion? Or do you want to rant about your opinion, thereby abusing the forum that you claim to defend? Are you going to pick the best answer because it is the one that just says, "Yeah! You're right," or are you going to pick the one that best answers your question?

Any question answered by a human is going to be answered unobjectively. We're meat-sacks. How can anything we say be completely rational? It's not like our brains are 100 percent efficient. We have opinions about everything, and all facts that we believe in are colored by bias.

So the real question is: Why don't people do thier best to answer objectively? Well - most people do. A lot of people joke and a lot of people genuinely believe thier opinions to be fact, but most people try to give straight advice while still fitting in thier opinion somewhere. We're human! We LOVE to give advice; we love a chance to infect someone else with our viral ideas. I've noticed that the answers that are usually picked as best have one thing in common: they are the most emotionally appealing. In the end, emotion and opinion are more important to the questioner and the answerer than any other factors.

If questioners are unobjective in picking thier favorite answer, why do answerers have to be objective in thier answers? Like it or not, Yahoo! Answers is a human enterprise, and you should count on it to be just as unpredictable and opinionated as anyone you meet on the street.

*Edit* Psychologists do not define 'thoughts' as opinions. Thoughts in general are randomly generated by the brain, while opinions are complicated sets of beliefs influenced by an individual's experience and DIRECTED thought patterns. To ask for one's thoughts is to ask for an unorganized jumble of nonsense that flows too fast to be typed.

I don't see this problem on Y!A. I do see a polarized debate in the Religion forum and the other forums that involve topics that are a matter of opinion.

If someone asks how to change a tire, then one would expect non-opinionated answers. You would have a case if they responed, "Here's how to change a tire and while you're doing it you better not abuse your child because you will go to hell".

However, is someone asks if they should have an abortion, then your logic says that they should just get a simple "yes" or "no". Now, that's wrong. Obviously the answer to that question is going to be a matter of opinion. All answers to religion, philosophy, relationship and etc will be opinions.

I think your last sentence points out your real objection. "get the answers they are looking for". What you are saying is you think people should reply with answers that you agree with and stop giving answers that you don't agree with? If a question is subjective and requires an opinion, then we all should be prepared for the fact that we won't agree with every answer.

You are upset because you can't shape the world?

I'm afraid in the psychology area I can only give opinions because I'm not a professional in psychology. And my opinion of people who disregard the rules and policies is that those people are generally immature and it would be nice if they'd go home and play with their barbies or dump trucks and leave the computer to the grown ups.

My opinion? that there are a lot of people on YA ( and on the net) that desperately want attention, and will happily insult or say anything to get an argument started, so long as they have anonymity.

No answer is 100 % infallible, and you are dealing with people, not robots. I ask how to fix my toaster and it will get fixed with as many ways as answers.I ask should I fix my toaster and the sky is the limit as to speculation, theories and Bible quotes. Ask questions in a simple, straight-forward way to minimize the confusion. Thank you.
