NB: "/" means to divide

4) 3h - 5h + 11 = 17
(Take away 5h from 3h)
-2h + 11 = 17
(Take 11 away from both sides. Leave the pronumerals)
-2h + (11 - 11) = (17 - 11)
-2h = 6
(Divide both sides by 2)
-2h/2 = 6/2
-h = 3

5) 2t + 8 - t = -3
(Rearrange the numbers on the LHS so the pronumerals are together. Same as in Q 1 - 3)
2t - t + 8 = -3
(take away t from 2t)
t + 8 = -3
(take 8 away from both sides)
t + (8 - 8) = (-3-8)
t = 11
(You don't need to divide because there is only 1 t)

6) Take 2a from 6a and divide both sides.

7) Take 8c from 3c, then take 7 off both sides, then divide.

It is pretty simple stuff. It takes some practice, but you'll get it eventually.

all these are the same. you have to treat the values with the letters as numbers i.e. (3c-8c= -5c or 6a-2a=4a). after you get those answers you just add,sub,or divide the entire problem by that number. for example ill do number 7

3c - 8c +7 = -18. (do 3c - 8c)
-5c+7= -18 (then subtract 7 from both sides)
-5c = -18-7 (you should get this)
-5c = -25 (subtracting 7 form 18 gives you -25)
c = 5 (-25/-5= 5 which is your answer)

All of these are completed using the same process.

First you combine like terms, the you divide by the coefficent of the variable (the number in front of the varible) to solve for the variable. I will work and explain one of your problems.

3h - 5h + 11 = 17

Now we want all of the variable that we are solving for (in this case h) on one side and all of the other junk on the other side. So we are going to subtract 11 from both sides of the equation.

3h - 5h + 11 -11 = 17 - 11

Now do the math

3h - 5h +0 = 6

3h - 5h = 6

Now combine like terms (simply add or subtract the numbers next to the variable).

- 2h = 6

Now divide both sides of the equation by whatever is in front of our variable ( - 2 in this problem)

- 2h / ( - 2) = 6 / ( - 2)

any number divided by it self is 1 so

1h = 6 / ( - 2)

and anything times 1 is itself so

h = 6 /( - 2)

Now do the math on the other side

h = - 3

To get our answer.

Hope this helps

3c - 8c +7 = -18. (do 3c - 8c)
-5c+7= -18 (then subtract 7 from both sides)
-5c = -18-7 (you should get this)
-5c = -25 (subtracting 7 form 18 gives you -25)
c = 5 (-25/-5= 5 which is your answer)

actually i'm pretty sure #5 is t=-11 and #7 is c=5.
but the other two are right.

EDIT:
i was referring to the first one.
