I'm kinda new to all this stuff and really don't know what the difference is. What is the difference between quad core and dual core processors?
I want to play big games like crysis and UT3.
I also run programs like adobe flash and photoshop.
Which one would suit me for these kind of things?

~thanks to anyone who helps me, much appreciated~

The simplest difference between quad and dual cores is that quad has four cores and dual has two. Up until recently, single core was all that was really available for home users, then dual cores came out and it showed the world the incredible power of multi-core processors. More recently, quad cores came out.

The old method of simply increasing clock speed of processors wasn't cutting it anymore, as the levels were creating instability with the technology that was available. These new processors are substantially more efficient and superior capabilities. If you want the best processor you can buy, go for a quad core. You could still get by fine with a dual core to play those games (although Crysis is nigh impossible to run maxed out with even all the current best technology), but a quad core will last you longer.

To be honest, either would probably suit you. However, I think the Core 2 Duo would be slightly cheaper. Quad-core is nice to have, but unless the application your using specifically has code to utilize all of the processors available, there will be wasted processor ability.

If I were to build a new gaming rig, I would get a decent Core 2 Duo like the E6750 and a nice video card like the 8800 GTS.

Duo has two cores on one chip while the quad has four cores on the chip.

you ought to research the net a wee bit about motherboards, graphic cards and power supply units too before getting a gaming rig. Oh and SLI/Crossfire technology

E6850 dual core is usually better than Q6600 quadcore when running at stock speeds. However, Q6600 gets unbeatable when overclocked.
