Because if men (in aggregate) started to feel their feelings, we would ...
* Stop working for organizations that suck our lives in exchange for mere money.
* Stop going to war to kill people over oil and other natural resources.
* Demand that work structures be changed to allow us more time to spend with our children, volunteer and serve society in other ways.
Basically, if men started feeling, our culture would have to change radically. So it's better to shame men for crying at movies...

Cos society dictates men to be masculine, and women should be feminine. If a man crys its a strength not a weakness, cos hes not afraid of what his friends think. Peronsonlly i dont care if they watch chick flicks or not.

Because society is still bent on caveman stereotypes. I think Disney's Raven was the first show to show the Man more frequently in the kitchen than the women, so it is slowly changing, just give it time. Equality and tolerance are still fairly new concepts and it's going to take some time for society to adjust. You can help by not giving a (beep) what someone says if you cry at a movie. If it's friends, I'll say something like, "you must be a heartless bastard to not get teary eyed over that!"

Since it is looked down upon society to cry at those genre. Isn't it being a man pretty much defying? then wouldnt crying defy society making you a man above all other men? pretty much everything is a contradiction to itself. Just be yourself and that should be find, let white trash be ignorant.
Although in most cultures.. Men are the decision making and the work and women take the emotional support. Together is the only way for things to work out. Dont take me wrong i dont truely believe this, i hate being sexist like this, but this is just out of speculation.

Saving Private Ryan is one of the top ten movies that make men cry. Well...its not really a "chick flick" but its considered weak for a man to watch one probably because its based on values and trends that cater towards women.

Because the world is supposed to be male dominated expressing one's emotions is non-masculine and shows weakness and society will not accept weakness in it's leaders. I believe that suppressing emotions is a greater weakness than expressing them. Hasn't there been research about how suppression of emotions can cause health problems such as ulcers or migraine headaches?

Talk to any so-called strong man and he will tell you unashamed that he cries. It's actually the weaker men that insist that men don't cry. Because they think it's a sign of weakness if they cry. They feel like it takes away their "power". It's men that don't have power to begin with that fear losing it.
I think the point about the "chick flick" is the same societal convention that says men don't cry, so I don't fault you for using the term. It just means it's a movie that is emotional and will make you cry, then it's termed a "chick flick".

a) 'chick flicks' are usually rubbish anyway... sloppy lovey romance and some supposed superior spiritualness.
b) a man is only ok to cry a certain amount. Review answers given here (this forum) and you'll see women are quite adamant that men should not cry as much as women, but should cry more than we do. We are just supposed to 'change' to their preference.
3) I'll cry *if* I am *truly* moved by the film/scene. (Gladiator had me good - the end, where he returns to his wife & kid in 'heaven').
4) Who cares ? If you wanna cry at a movie - go for it. But don't expect any 'respect' from the woman you're with.

I don't know any woman who would fault a man for becoming emotional during a moving scene in a movie.
It's clearly other men who hold you up to these stereotypes...so you are the ones who have to bust through them.

(1) Chick flicks are 66% rubbish, so - you aren't missing loads.
(2) It'd be like asking why the sun isn't granted more attention even though its readers are 99% of them lower class and of above average IQ. The reason why - it is life.
