Yes, the heat exchanger for the CPU chip is at the base of your lap top. If you stand it on a table you will see that there are several pads on the bottom so it has a 5mm plus gap under it. This is to allow heat to dissipate. If you rest the computer on your lap this gap does not exist, hence why it is getting hot. Lap top computers really need to be called portable computers.

It is quite common for laptops to get hot underneath, if you think about it, a normal desktop PC has plenty of ventilation around it, however the ventilation ports on your laptop are both on the sides and the bottom where it is resting on your lap. This will be more noticeable particularly if the application is graphics intensive, which will use more power on the CPU or GPU (Graphics processing unit) - POWER = HEAT.
You should try to have a flat surface under your laptop to allow adequate ventilation, if not your overheating problem could turn into hardware failure.

Yes, the bottom is where everything is. So if it is on it would be warmer and warmer because things are running. I have not had burns, but it has got very warm at the bottom of the laptop, but i just take it off quickly. lol

I think, that laptop is a misnomer, while they can be used on your lap, it's not ideal as you're preventing the airflow from around the base causing a buildup of heat.
I suggest you go and buy a cheap tray of some description.

Yes, definitely because they do heat up when used for more than a couple of hours. I have now bought a laptop tray to counteract this and also allow air to circulate round fan.

Yeh i had exactly the same problem. Its surprisingly easy to fix tho. wat i did was just nick one of those grated cake stands from my oven and sat the laoptop on it for 100% of the time its not on my lap. That way, the heat escapes easier and when you put it on your lap it stays cooler for WAY WAY longer.
