I noticed a commercial on VH1 the other day about the 7 eras of rock music. They mentioned them in chronological order but after Alternative/grunge they went with british indie pop. Are you f***in kiddin me? What about the "Nu-metal" or even the sucky Emo trend. Emo was more rock n roll than british indie and thats not saying much. But i think leaving out "Nu-metal" or Post Grunge (whatever you want to call it) leaves out some great bands like Nickelback, Foo Fighters, Godsmack, Disturbed, Korn, Seether etc.. Now i liked Franz Ferdinand as much as the other 50 people who went out and bought their cd but there's no way they deserve their own era of rock.

Yes, because they hardly ever show any videos anymore. Calling them music channels is false advertising. If they want to be reality-program channels, then they should say so. They need to stop pretending to be something they're not.

They should, but for different reasons than yours. The fact that they shove lousy talentless bands down the throats of children really is a problem and MTV not even playing music now. Really? Come on! But the British indie pop scene really is huge and a lot of the bands that belong to that genre are the bands that are the most respected of the modern bands. At this point in music history, it's really unclear which is the dominate genre.

The other day, some guy referred to Slipknot as death metal...honestly, can anyone believe these networks?

I think they got to focus on 100% music, 0% non-music reality...that's the only way.

I can't remember the last time I saw an actual music video on either one.

no, i don't think they should quit the music industry, but they should get back to it.
the streaming music videos is what made mtv successful, not stupid reality shows.
Get back to the music!
