Ok, here's my situation,
All my final exams are over, but I still have 1 test remaining for philosophy class (class consisting of 9 mc tests, with no final exam). Just recently, I have torn my meniscus and too add to that I also have an existing genetic condition called osteochondromatosis. It is excruciatingly painful for me to walk, let alone physically travel to my university 1 hour away from my home.

I have expressed my concern to my professor, to see if anything can be done for me. He told me to contact the academic advisor, and ask for an incomplete in the course. My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, and the last day for the last test is this Wednesday, and assuming I will not have the energy to take the test, I will end up with a 78% in the course.

Should I take the Incomplete grade? Will this count as an F for medical schools? My other courses Chem, Math, and Physics are all well in the high 80's or low 90's. I am in my first year.

Any advices would be appreciated. Thanks

i would take the incomplete because that gives you (approximately(I think)) 6 months to a year to make up any missing work to get the grade and as long as it will get you an A ... I was under the impression that for medical classes a 90 was considered a B but it all depends on the school. I say especially since the professor recommended the incomplete, thats what you should do. For your school specifics you should contact your counselor. Good Luck!!

Take the incomplete, but complete it as soon as you are able to take the test. The person who said that with an incomplete you would have to retake the class is completely wrong. In fact, if that were the case, your professor would never have suggested such a thing! Most schools have a deadline - in our case you need to finish within 3 weeks of the beginning of the next semester. If you DON'T take the test within the time given, it will count as an F.

incompletes are not averaged into GPA's - I'm guessing your school has closed its time for withdraw passing/withdraw failing, but with an incomplete you will have to completely retake the class.

This sounds like something you should be discussing with your professor or academic adviser. You don't want something like this to prevent graduation or impacting your ability to register for future courses so it would seem logical to care of it sooner than later.
